President Droupadi Murmu Becomes First Indian President to Take a Sortie in Rafale Jet | Watch

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday created history by becoming the first Indian President to take a sortie in a Rafale fighter jet, showcasing her deep appreciation for the Indian Air Force’s operational capabilities and the nation’s growing defence strength.

The historic flight took place at the Ambala Air Force Station — home to the IAF’s first Rafale squadron, the “Golden Arrows.” President Murmu, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, donned a G-suit and underwent a pre-flight briefing before boarding the twin-seater Rafale jet.

Accompanied by Group Captain Abhishek Tripathi, a senior IAF test pilot, the President’s sortie lasted nearly 30 minutes, covering various aerial manoeuvres at high altitudes. Sources said the flight showcased the aircraft’s advanced combat systems and India’s air defence readiness.

After the sortie, President Murmu expressed pride in the professionalism and dedication of the Indian Air Force personnel.

“It was an exhilarating experience. I am filled with pride to witness the discipline, valour, and skill of our pilots. The Rafale represents India’s growing self-reliance and defence capability,” the President said after completing her flight.

The Rafale fighter jets, inducted from France in 2020, have significantly enhanced India’s air power with state-of-the-art avionics, weapon systems, and combat efficiency. The Ambala Air Base, strategically located in north India, plays a key role in maintaining operational readiness along India’s borders.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari congratulated the President on this momentous occasion, calling it “a proud moment for the entire nation.”

A video of the President’s sortie has since gone viral on social media, with citizens and defence enthusiasts hailing her courage and symbolic gesture of solidarity with the armed forces.
