Department of Posts Changes Inland Speed Post Fees and Launches New Features

Indore. The Department of Posts introduced Speed ??Post on August 1, 1986, to ensure fast and reliable delivery of letters and parcels across the country. Launched as part of India Post's modernization efforts, the service was established with the aim of ensuring timely, efficient, and secure mail delivery. Over the years, Speed ??Post has become one of India's most popular and reliable mail services, offering superior service compared to private courier companies.

Since its inception, Speed ??Post has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of its customers. To further strengthen its position as the preferred delivery service in the country, the following new features have been added to enhance customer convenience:

? OTP-based secure delivery

? Online payment facility

? SMS-based delivery notifications

? Convenient online booking services

? Real-time delivery updates

? User registration facility

Inland Speed ??Post charges were last revised in October 2012. To maintain continuous improvements, meet rising operational costs, and invest in new innovations, Speed ??Post (Documents) charges have now been revised logically.

The following revised charges have been notified vide Gazette Notification No. 4256 dated 25.09.2025, effective from October 1, 2025.

Registration for both documents and parcels is available as a value-added service under Speed ??Post. This allows customers to enjoy secure delivery to a specific address, uniquely designed to combine trust and speed. This value-added service, "Registration," will cost ?5 per Speed ??Post item (document/parcel) plus applicable GST. Postal items under this facility will only be delivered to the intended recipient or a person duly authorized by the recipient.

Similarly, the value-added service of One-Time Password (OTP) delivery will cost ?5 per Speed ??Post item (document/parcel) plus applicable GST. Postal items under this facility will only be delivered after the OTP shared with the delivery staff is successfully verified.

To further facilitate access to Speed ??Post services for students, a 10% discount has been introduced on Speed ??Post charges. Additionally, a 5% discount has been introduced exclusively for new bulk customers.
