Tejaji Nagar Police Seize Extra-Length Modified Truck

Indore. Indore, the country's cleanest city, has been witnessing frequent truck accidents, with the driver's negligence being the primary culprit. However, due to modifications, such containers pose a threat to traffic safety, disrupting the transportation system. The latest incident occurred on the bypass in the Tejaji Nagar police station area, where yesterday, truck number MH 23 W 3368 hit a young man riding a bike, seriously injuring him. He is currently undergoing treatment at Index College. Tejaji Nagar police acted swiftly and seized the truck container. When the container was brought to Tejaji Nagar police station, everyone was shocked to discover that its length had been increased by 5 feet through welding. When contacted, the police, instead of investigating the matter and taking action against the truck owner, appeared to be evasive. It's worth noting that large trucks or container trucks manufactured by companies must be approximately 32 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 9 feet high. Large containers are multi-axle, used in industries to transport heavy cargo over long distances. The container that met with the accident had been lengthened from 32 feet to 37 feet, a violation of transportation regulations. The designated width of 8 feet was modified to 10 feet, and the height was increased from 9 feet to 11 feet. It's been reported that approximately 70-80 such trucks and containers from Aurangabad ply the roads of Indore daily, but neither toll booths nor the transport department notice them. However, the rules for modifying trucks and containers in India are set under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. These rules are primarily intended to ensure vehicle safety and the smooth functioning of public transport. Violations of these rules carry heavy fines. Due to modifications, such containers pose a risk to traffic safety. Following the Indore accident, this aspect needs to be addressed to prevent future accidents like the one on Airport Road.
