THREE DEBT RIDDEN ACCOMPLICES INCLUDING A LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS GRADUATE, CHOSE CYBER-EXTORTION TO PAY THEIR DEBT, LANDED IN JAIL DIRECTLY FROM THAILAND.

• ACCUSED USED A WELL-KNOWN GANGSTER’S NAME TO INSTIL FEAR.
• ONE OF THE ACCUSED IS A MASTER’S GRADUATE FROM THE LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS. 
• ACCUSED USED AN INTERNATIONAL THAILAND SIM CARD TO PLACE WHATSAPP CALLS AND EVADE DETECTION
 
BRIEF OF INCIDENT:
A complaint regarding extortion was reported at PS DBG Road wherein the complainant reported that he had received a threatening international WhatsApp call from an unknown number. The caller, identifying himself as a well-known gangster, not only demanded money but also sent a QR code for cryptocurrency payment, warning that his children would be shot dead if the demands were not met.
Based on the complaint, a case u/s 308(4) BNS was registered at PS DBG Road and investigation was initiated.
 
TEAM & OPERATION:
Considering the gravity of the offence, two separate teams of PS DBG Road and PS Cyber for field level surveillance & technical surveillance respectively were constituted under the supervision of Sh Saurabh A. Narender, IPS, ACP Paharganj. The team comprised Insp Randheer Singh SHO DBG Road, Insp Sandeep, SHO Cyber, Insp. Dinesh Kumar, ATO/DBG Road, SI Naveen from PS Cyber and SI Rajesh, HC Suneet, Ct. Sourabh, Ct. Anoop from PS DBG Road. The teams worked under the overall guidance of Sh. Prashant Chaudhary, Addl. DCP-II, Central District.
The investigation team swiftly swung into action. The technical team swung into action using advanced & paid cyber tools, traced the suspected International WhatsApp call & the origin of QR Code sent to complainant, for the receipt of extortion money to Thailand. The previous cypto-transaction were analysed using advanced cyber tools in co-ordination with i4C, MHA, the suspects were successfully tracked down in Thailand. 
Simultaneously the field level surveillance team kept a close watch on the supects’ addresses in India. Once the suspects landed back in India, they were immediately apprehended. They were identified as (1) Sumit R/o West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi (2) Prince R/o Roshanara Road, Near Pulbangash, Delhi (3) Nitish R/o DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi. The accused Nitish is a master’s graduate from the London School of Economics. Two mobile phones used to generate crypto QR code & to make the international Whatsapp call also recovered from their possession. 
During interrogation, the accused persons revealed that all three of them were heavily debt-ridden, and to pay off their debts in an easy way, they chose this extortion plot. One of the accused, Sumit, who works as a in the jewellery business, was well acquainted with the complainant and his family. To instil fear, they used the name of a well-known gangster. All the three accused persons conspired their plot here in India and in an attempt to escape detection, the accused persons reached Thailand and purchased an international SIM card from Thailand and placed calls via WhatsApp. 
 
ACCUSED ARRESTED:
1. Sumit R/o West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi Age 42 yrs.
He is a B. Com graduate.
2. Prince R/o Roshanara Road, Near Pulbangash, Delhi Age 35 yrs.
He is a 9th fail.
3. Nitish R/o DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi Age 31 yrs.
 
 
RECOVERY:
1. Mobile phone used to generate QR Code
2. Mobile phone used to make the International WhatsApp call.
