Government Medical College Datia has been working for the benefit of patients from time to time. In this sequence, under the guidance of Medical Dean Dr. Deepak Singh Marawi, the Surgery Department successfully performed open abdomino-perineal resection (APR) surgery on Poonam wife of Shri Ratan, age 30 years, Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh. This complex surgery is usually done for rectum cancer patients. Its successful execution was done by the surgery team of the institute, Dr. Kedar Nath Arya, Dr. Rajesh Badal, Dr. Joy, Dr. Avnish Arya, Dr. Kusum Mahor, Dr. Yogiraj Joshi, Dr. Kashinath Nayak. During this time, the patient was given anesthesia by Dr. Ravneet Singh, Dr. Divya Gautam, Dr. Samarth and Dr. Rahul. Jyoti Sharma and Shivani Parihar were also present in the nursing staff. The patient had a problem of rectal pain and rectal bleeding for 1 year. When the patient was seen by Dr. Kedarnath Arya and tests were done in which cancer was found in the rectum, then after counseling the patient, a decision was taken to perform this complex surgery. This surgery was completed in 2 parts in 4 hours.
1. The abdomen is opened and the part of the intestine in which cancer is present is removed.
2. The anus and surrounding tissues are also removed.
After this, a small hole is made on the skin of the abdomen from where the intestine is brought out and a way for defecation is created. This is called colostomy. The cost of this operation in private hospitals is around 3 lakh rupees. Now the patient is completely healthy and is in the process of recovery.
