The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Chairperson of NCW, Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, set the tone for the event with a stirring keynote address, emphasizing the pivotal role of youth in building a gender-sensitive society. She remarked,

“Today, we see Indian youth leading some of the world’s largest companies. The world admires the potential of Indian youth. We are in the midst of a 25-year ‘Golden Period’—the ‘Amrit Kaal’—and I am confident that the dreams of a developed India will be realized through our youth power. As Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha once said, youth should constantly experiment, as innovation stems from young hands.”

Highlighting the crucial role of women, Smt. Rahatkar noted,

“Our nation has always empowered women, and today, our daughters are breaking barriers by flying fighter jets, taking on combat roles in the armed forces, and excelling in Science, Technology, and Space. It is a powerful statement that India is progressing toward its goals with full strength.”

Also present at the event was Smt. Babita Chauhan, Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women, who reinforced the message of equality and empowerment. Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, Vice Chancellor, SVSU, emphasized the need for educational institutions to nurture a culture of dignity and safety beyond academics.

As part of the initiative, students took a pledge on gender sensitivity, POSH, and cyber safety, reaffirming their commitment to fostering respectful and secure campuses. The programme also announced the selection of two female and two male campus ambassadors from each institution, who will spearhead sensitization efforts among their peers and promote a culture of safety, equality, and respect.

The Campus Calling programme aims to reach over 1,000 universities and colleges across the country, making it one of the most extensive youth-centric initiatives undertaken by NCW. The programme seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills to combat gender-based discrimination, harassment, and cyber crimes effectively.

The event was jointly organized by the IPR Cell, Women Empowerment Committee, Gender Sensitization Cell, and Gender Equity and Equal Opportunity Cell of SVSU, with dignitaries including Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, CEO, SVSU, and the leadership of Yuvamanthan in attendance.

Member of organising committee told to Vijay Gaur Bureau Chief that the Campus Calling programme marks a significant step towards building gender-sensitive and cyber-safe educational spaces across the country, with NCW and Yuvamanthan leading the charge in empowering youth and fostering safe environments for all.
