Delhi Police is working rigorously on a ‘Zero-Tolerance Policy’ against narcotics and is committed to eradicate drugs from their roots. Delhi Police is taking strict measures against drug smugglers/traffickers/peddlers. Through initiatives like ‘Operation Kavach’ and various other rigorous narcotic detection, operations as well as seizure of high-quality drugs and Drug Destruction programmes etc., we have taken significant steps to curb drug trafficking and aim to uproot this menace completely. CP/Delhi has also tasked all ranks and file to make concerted and focused efforts to make Delhi drug-free.
Seizure Details:
In the year 2024, a total of 1,789 cases under the NDPS Act were registered in Delhi, resulting in the arrest of 2,290 drug traffickers—a significant achievement. Financial investigations have led to the seizure of assets worth over ?4 crore, with an additional ? 5 crore of assets in the final stages of financial investigation. Moreover, in the current year, proceedings under PITNDPS Act are proposed to be taken up against several drug traffickers/peddlers, who are repeatedly involved in narco smuggling/trafficking.
Drug Destruction:
Over the past two years, as part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Drug-Free India Campaign), the following amounts of drugs were destroyed :
* 21st December, 2022: Approximately 2,888 Kg of drugs were destroyed.
* 26th June, 2023: Approximately 15,700 Kg of drugs were destroyed.
* 20th February, 2024: Approximately 10,631 Kg of drugs were destroyed.
* 17th December, 2024: Approximately 10,601.192 Kg of drugs were destroyed.
* 24th January, 2025 : Approximately 1,575 Kg of drugs were destroyed.
The total value of these destroyed drugs in the international market is estimated to be approx Rs. 5,997.75 Crores. In continuation of the same, Sixth round of Drug Destruction programme was held today (3.4.2025) by Delhi Police, in which drugs were destroyed/seized, in last 20 years (2004-2024) of Districts/Crime Branch/Special Cell.
In line with its steadfast mission to achieve a "Drug-Free Delhi by 2027," as guided by Hon’ble LG Delhi, the Delhi Police organised a Mega Drug Destruction event today. This significant initiative underscores the department's unwavering resolve to combat drug abuse and ensure a safer, healthier capital for all citizens.
The event witnessed the august presence of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Sh. Vinai Kumar Saxena along with the Commissioner of Police, Delhi Sh. Sanjay Arora, symbolising the collective commitment of all stake holders to eradicating the menace of drugs.

In compliance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s orders, committees were formed at different levels by the Delhi Police to oversee the destruction of drugs seized from traffickers. These committees compiled a list of confiscated drugs from cases between 2004 and 2024, that had received disposal orders from the court.
Today’s drug destruction aligns with the "Drug-Free Delhi by 2027" campaign. This includes cannabis (529.456 kg), charas (27.347 kg), heroin (11.580 kg), cocaine (517.875 kg), MDMA (15 gram), poppy straw (542.3 kg),ketamine (8.0 kg),ephedrine (6.5 kg) from Crime Branch, South Distt, Rohini Distt, West Distt and Special Cell. 517.700 KG of Cocaine which was destroyed today is a part of total recovery of 1289 KG of Cocaine and 39.706 KG of Hydroponic Ganja. The same was recovered from different states of India after very painstaking and thorough investigation vide FIR No 455/24 dt 02.10.2024 U/s 8(c)/20/21/25/29 NDPS ACT, PS Special Cell, Delhi.
The total weight of the drugs to be destroyed today is 1,643.074 kilograms, with an estimated international market value of ?2622 crore.
Speaking on this occasion, Hon’ble LG, Delhi lauded the work of Delhi Police for its relentless campaign against narcotic drugs in the Capital City. He also exhorted all stakeholders to join hands for making Delhi ‘Drug Free’ by 2027.
The Mega Drug Destruction event has served as a powerful statement against the proliferation and abuse of narcotics in the city. By safely disposing of confiscated drugs, the Delhi Police aims to raise awareness and send a clear message of zero tolerance towards illicit substances.
