Contrary to the common belief that organ donation is prohibited in Islam, the World Organisation of Religions & Knowledge (WORK) is taking an unprecedented initiative to break this myth. WORK has brought together over 400 people to pledge organ donation, many of whom are followers of Islam. This was announced by the President of WORK, Allama Syed Abdullah Tariq, during a press conference held at the Press Club of India in Delhi.
He emphasized that organ donation promotes a broader understanding and acceptance of this life-saving practice within society. On this occasion, WORK will proudly honor 36 exemplary NGOs and individuals for their outstanding contributions to society and humanity. According to WORK, these organizations have been at the forefront of driving social change, and WORK feels proud to acknowledge their invaluable efforts.
Ms. Sumu Tariq, the Central Secretary of WORK and President of the WORK Women Wing, highlighted the organization’s unwavering commitment to societal betterment across more than 200 districts in India and several countries worldwide. She emphasized that WORK operates entirely without financial support from the government or non-members. All initiatives are self-funded, with dedicated volunteers, known as WORKers, pooling their resources to support the various activities aimed at uplifting communities. This unique model of self-sustainability and collective effort underscores WORK’s mission to serve society with integrity and independence.

Mubashshir Hussain, State Head of WORK’s Delhi Chapter, stated that for the past 36 years, WORK has been dedicated to serving humanity and promoting compassion. In celebration of its 37th foundation day, WORK is addressing one of the prevalent myths in society regarding organ donation, raising awareness among the public. He further added that such initiatives are part of WORK’s mission to eliminate enmity and hatred from the world and spread the light of knowledge. Where there is knowledge, social evils will naturally disappear, and feelings of compassion, love, harmony, and service will be awakened in people.
Asia Tariq, State Head of the Women’s Wing of WORK’s Delhi Chapter, said that since its establishment in 1988, the World Organization of Religion and Knowledge (WORK) has been a symbol of compassion and service. Through its various initiatives, WORK has consistently contributed to the betterment of society, fostering mutual understanding, education, and humanitarian efforts.
WORK officials announced that the organ donation pledge event will be held on August 25, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Sri Sathya Sai Auditorium on Lodhi Road, Delhi. The organization has urged people to become aware of organ donation so that many lives can be saved.
