India’s role in COP-20 Work is being done in the field of environmental protection by global cooperation organizations like G-20 BRICS. There is a need to work on the availability and conservation of clean water and action plans to deal with plastic waste. We have to change our daily routine. The whole world is sitting on one table and talking about global warming. This was said by IITTM Director Prof. Alok Sharma as the chief guest during the Yuva Manthan Model United Nations Conference organized at JU on Wednesday. Prof. Neerja Kumar Jha was present as the keynote speaker. Prof. DN Goswami presided over the function. Participants from 25 countries took part in the program. Representatives of all countries were welcomed by applying tilak. The program started with the welcome speech of Prof. JN Gautam. Through the program, the youth were made aware of the meetings held in the United Nations and how different nations put their problems before the United Nations. In the same sequence, Prof. Neerja Kumar Jha, who was present as the keynote speaker, urged us to take responsibility for the problems of the global environment not only as a nation but also as an international citizen.

The attention of the House was drawn towards the continuous increase in incidents like global temperature rise, melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, cyclones and storms. Emphasis was laid on implementing necessary changes in the present and future and incorporating them into the lifestyle for the solution of the above problems. Prof. DN Goswami, who was presiding over the program, said that environmental change, and climate pollution a problems faced by the entire humanity.

Along with stressing on controlled use of resources, he also stressed making the current working system of UNO and the process of division of power coordination centric and giving importance to the countries from geographical, economic and population points of view. Prof. JN Gautam, who was playing the role of coordinator of the program, influenced the role of UNO in carrying out creative works in the world. During the program, all the guests were honored by presenting a shawl, coconut and memento.

The program was conducted by Aastha Tomar and thanks were expressed by Prof. JN Gautam. Prof. Neeraj Kumar Jha, Prof. SK Shukla, and Prof. Shraddha Saxena were present as judges in the program. Representatives from 25 countries presented their views at the conference. New Zealand remained in first place while Denmark remained in second place.

On this occasion, Prof. MK Gupta, Prof. IK Patro, Dr. Satendra Sikarwar, Dr. Harishankar Kanshana, Shakeel, Sanjay Jadoun, Waqar, Adarsh, Sakshi Rathore, Khushboo Rahat, Ambika Bhadauria, Apeksha Srivastava were present. Views expressed by representatives of different countries:

In the program, India’s representatives Khushi Gaur and Srishti Tomar started with the role of India being a nature-worshipping country and linked the positive form of ancient traditions with the current technology and research and underlined the importance of environmental change and climate protection. Along with India’s goal of making itself rich in green energy, important efforts being made to make the neighboring countries capable in the field of renewable energy were also presented before the House.

Greece’s representative Vikash Agarwal said that for sustainable development, we have to save natural institutions. Only then can we build a developed nation. We have to change our daily routine. We have to pay attention to natural sources. Greece is working for green energy in rural areas. China’s representative Marisa Senger said that the Rio Conference was held in 1992. It was decided that the developing countries will be given time to fulfill the objective of environmental protection and it will be ensured that their development is not obstructed. For the developing countries, this debate was made of development versus environment. 45% of the world’s plastic is recycled in China. After 2030, not a single coal factory will be set up in China.

As representatives of Pakistan, Yogita Chauhan and Ankit Rathore said that the Tree Tsunami Project was brought to Pakistan in which the target of planting 10 billion trees was easily accomplished in 2023. We have to increase the contribution of renewable energy by at least 30% by 2030, using hydroenergy and solar energy. Representatives from Denmark, Samiksha Dubey and Isha Srivastava said that to reduce pollution, emphasis has been laid on equipment working on wind energy, which will lead the nation towards development. Biodiversity is in danger. Wildlife is in danger and is almost on the verge of extinction and it has to be saved. Glaciers are melting and water levels are rising due to global warming. The United Nations should give suggestions. How can we reduce this?

New Zealand representative Anshika Dubey said that New Zealand has one of the largest economic zones. There is a Zero Carbon revised bill. The percentage of biogenic methane has to be reduced. There is a lot of focus on eco-tourism. Work has been done on green infrastructure. We are working on solar energy.
