While the festival of Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated with great pomp across the country, the district jail administration made special arrangements in Lakhimpur-Kheri district jail on Monday to ensure that sisters do not face any inconvenience during the meeting. At present, 878 prisoners are imprisoned in the district jail. Among them, 22 are women prisoners. Similarly, apart from sisters, brothers also reached the district jail to get Rakhi tied. Sisters in jail applied Tilak and tied Rakhi on the wrists of their brothers. Sisters tied Rakhi to the prisoners in jail and took a pledge to repent their crimes. The prisoners in jail also promised their sisters to give up crime.

A crowd of sisters was seen at the district jail since morning. Long queues of sisters were formed to tie Rakhi to the brothers of prisoners in jail. On the other hand, the jail administration had already finalized the preparations. Sisters met their brothers and tied Rakhi amidst tight security.

Jailer Harivansh Pandey said that the festival of Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated in the district jail. Sisters are reaching the jail to tie Rakhi to the prisoners in jail. He said that adequate security arrangements have been made. All the sisters reaching the jail were made to meet their brothers and Rakhi was tied. Along with this, the prisoners were also sworn to give up crime.

Vow to give up crime!

When the sisters tied rakhi to their brothers, they also took a promise from them to give up crime as a gift. The sisters who came to tie rakhi to their brothers said that they had tied rakhi to their brothers and while tying rakhi, they had made a promise of never coming to the jail again. Another sister said that she too has tied rakhi to her brother and made a promise not to commit a crime. During this, many sisters shed tears.

What did the jail superintendent say?

Jail superintendent PD Salounia said that special arrangements were made for the sisters who reached the jail to tie rakhi to the prisoners on Rakshabandhan. Additional force was taken from the police line for the meeting. A pandal was set up outside the jail premises. Arrangements for refreshments have also been made for the sisters who come to tie rakhi to their brothers. Meetings started at 7 am. Meetings are being held by making batches of 100 according to the number. He said that the festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated in the jail till late evening.
