On the occasion of Janmashtami, the idols of Lord Radha Krishna will be adorned with precious jewels worth more than Rs 100 crore in the Gopal Mandir located in Phoolbagh. During this time, more than 3 hundred police personnel will be deployed in the entire temple premises. Today, on Janmashtami, the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner will take out the jewels from the bank locker in the morning amid heavy security and reach the temple premises and after worshiping Radha Krishna in the afternoon, these jewels will be worn by Radha Krishna. SP Dharamveer Singh took stock of the security arrangements made for the jewels, while the Municipal Commissioner directed to make precise arrangements for the crowd that will gather for the darshan of Radha Krishna in Gopal Mandir.
According to the information, the idols of Lord Radhakrishna in Gopal Mandir of the time of Scindia dynasty are decorated with a gold crown studded with diamonds, a necklace of seven strands of emerald, a garland of 249 pure pearls, diamond studded bracelets, diamond gold flute, a huge silver umbrella and 50 kg silver utensils. Along with this, other gold and silver jewellery, jewellery studded with precious stones will be worn by the Lord. It is noteworthy that all these jewellery and precious emerald diamonds were given to the government by the Scindia dynasty at the time of independence. Which were later handed over as the property of the Municipal Corporation. More than one lakh people come to Gwalior on Janmashtami to see the adornment of Lord Radhakrishna with these jewellery. For this reason, common devotees are able to see these jewellery only under tight security arrangements.
Corporation Commissioner Aman Vaishnav said that for the past several years, during the Janmashtami festival, Shri Krishna and Radha in the Gopal temple located in Phoolbagh have been decorated with their ancient jewellery. Since then, every year during the Janmashtami program of Gopal Mandir, the ornaments and gold-silver utensils and decoration material of the Lord are brought from the bank locker amid heavy security arrangements and the Lord is adorned. He told that on Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the ornaments and decoration material and utensils of the Lord will be brought out from the bank locker with the help of police force and after cleaning them etc., the Lord will be adorned.
