Workers are the heroes of national development.

Pavan Paruti | Gwalior MP | Workers are the heroes of national development. Special on May Day/Dr. Keshav Pandey Labor plays a valuable role in the new construction of the country. It has an important contribution in the development of the nation. Workers play an important role in society, organization, country and industry. It cannot be imagined to build any industrial structure without labour. Workers have their own place in the society. International Labor Day is the day of hard work, determination, determination and loyalty of millions of workers. Why was there a need to celebrate this day? Let us know the history, importance of International Labor Day and its impact in the modern era.

Labor Day, May Day or International Workers’ Day is dedicated to workers. May 1 is celebrated all over the world including India to honor laborers and workers. Along with respecting the workers, this day is also celebrated with the aim of raising voice for the rights of the workers, so that the position of the workers can be strengthened in the society. Every work sector depends on the hard work of the workers. Workers work hard to promote any particular sector. May Day is a festival for and honors workers around the world. In 1886, workers in America launched a movement demanding an 8-hour working day. Police opened fire during a protest in Chicago’s Haymarket Square. In which many workers lost their lives and hundreds were injured. In 1889, at the International Socialist Conference in Paris, it was decided to dedicate May 1 to the sacrifice of the workers. Which is a day to recognize the struggles and achievements of workers around the world. In this way gradually, May 1st started being celebrated as Labor Day or Workers’ Day all over the world. The day commemorates an important event in the history of labor rights.

This day came into existence in India in 1923. Although the labor movement had started 136 years ago. 34 years after its implementation in America on 1 May 1889, Labor Day was celebrated for the first time in Chennai on 1 May 1923 under the banner of Labor Kisan Party of Hindustan. Comrade Singaravelar led the function. Many organizations and social parties supported this decision. Most countries celebrate May 1 as May Day. The first Monday in May is a bank holiday in the UK and Ireland. This holiday was officially sanctioned by the Soviet Union in the twentieth century. It is also known as International Solidarity of Workers Day in some communist countries. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands all celebrate Labor Day on different days. Labor Day holds great importance not only for the working class but for the entire society. Because the day serves as a global recognition of the vital role workers play in building, maintaining and running economies around the world.

It symbolizes the celebration of achievements, skills and hard work of workers across industries and sectors. Their dedication, hard work and innovation keep the wheels of society turning. Reflects the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights and better working conditions. It raises awareness about issues such as fair wages, safe working environments, social security and protection from exploitation. Puts pressure on people to create a more equitable world for workers. Giving workers from different backgrounds, industries and countries the courage to stand in solidarity with each other. This sense of unity empowers workers to collectively express their concerns, share experiences and work towards positive change.

Labor in India refers to employment in the Indian economy. There were 476.67 million workers in India in 2020. Which is the highest after China. In which the total labor force is 41.19 percent in agriculture sector, 26.18 percent in industry sector and 32.33 percent in service sector. Whereas in Madhya Pradesh, which has a population of 7.26 crores, there are approximately two crore laborers. There are three categories of workers in the country unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled. Their salary is determined on that basis.

The unfortunate thing is that even today lakhs of people are made to do bonded labour. Which is a complete violation of the Bonded Labor System (Abolition) Act 1976 and Article 23 of the Constitution. Gender discrimination in wages is common. Even today in factories, women are not paid equal to men.

It is also an irony that small poor children are forced to leave school and do child labour. Child labor deprives children of their fundamental rights. Whereas the Child Labor Prohibition and Regulation Act is in force in the country. The worker should not work for more than 8 hours. Working hours may be increased, but additional remuneration should be paid in addition to the regular salary.

However, Madhya Pradesh government has taken a big step in the interest of workers. Labor Minister Prahlad Patel has given a big relief and increased the wages. Now the minimum wage of skilled workers will be Rs 12294, and that of highly skilled workers will be Rs 13919. In this context, the salary of unskilled workers has increased by Rs 1975, the salary of semi-skilled workers has increased by Rs 2114, the salary of skilled workers has increased by Rs 2459 and the salary of highly skilled workers has increased by Rs 2784 per month. Unskilled laborers will now get wages of Rs 11,450, semi-skilled laborers will get Rs 12,446 and agricultural laborers will get Rs 9,160 every month. Those working part time will be linked to Sambal Yojana. The wages of unorganized workers have been increased by 25 percent. This increase, which happened after 10 years, came into effect in the entire state from April.

Also, the government has announced that a subsidy of Rs 40 thousand will be given to the workers on purchasing e-scooter. This initiative of the Labor Minister is praiseworthy. But there is a need to take more concrete steps in the interests of the workers. Even today, exploitation of workers is common in many areas. Keeping this in view, the Paralegal Volunteer formed under the District Legal Services Authority has issued a helpline number that if someone refuses to pay a laborer after paying wages, then he can complain on the labor helpline number 1800-1800-999.

On Labor Day, we all should contribute to the development of the workers by taking positive initiatives for their significant contribution in the development of society and nation. With a few lines, hearty greetings to labor brothers and sisters on May Day.

Laborers are the strong pillar of the country, there is no arrogance in it.

Without doing that work, there are delays, they are the pillars of the economy.

  2. One thing I’d like to say is car insurance cancelling is a dreaded experience and if you are doing the appropriate things as being a driver you’ll not get one. A number of people do have the notice that they’ve been officially dropped by their own insurance company they then have to struggle to get additional insurance from a cancellation. Low cost auto insurance rates are usually hard to get from a cancellation. Having the main reasons with regard to auto insurance cancellation can help drivers prevent losing one of the most important privileges available. Thanks for the ideas shared through your blog.
