CM Dhami, Union Railway Minister Discuss Major Rail Upgrades in Uttarakhand; Haridwar-Dehradun Stations to Become Model Hubs

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the development of rail infrastructure in Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister requested that the Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations be developed as model railway stations, with the expansion and strengthening of both stations, and the doubling of the Haridwar-Dehradun railway line, be completed with the central government bearing the full cost. The Union Minister agreed to develop the Haridwar and Dehradun railway stations as model railway stations and stated that an appropriate decision would be made after examining the possibility of the central government bearing the full cost of the Haridwar-Dehradun doubling.

The Chief Minister requested the Union Railway Minister to consider the possibility of including the Almora and Someshwar areas in the Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail project alignment and to provide for a road along with the tunnel. The Railway Minister stated that this would be considered.

The Chief Minister also requested the Union Railway Minister to completely close the old Rishikesh Railway Station and transfer all rights of this land to the State Government. The Chief Minister said that if additional land is required for smooth operation at the Yoga City Railway Station due to the closure of the old railway station, the State Government will consider it positively and cooperate. The Railway Minister gave his in-principle consent to this.

On the request of the Chief Minister, the Union Railway Minister also agreed to make the Dehradun-Tanakpur weekly train three times a week.
