BJP founding member, former Delhi Chief Executive Councilor, and former President of the Delhi BJP and All India Sports Council, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, passes away at the age of 94 -- a wave of grief within the BJP family.

The President of India, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha met with the bereaved family to express their condolences.

The BJP National President, the Organization General Secretary, and other officials met with the family to express their condolences on the passing of Prof. Malhotra.

The Delhi BJP President, the Organization General Secretary, and other officials, along with former presidents, and several MPs and MLAs, described Prof. Malhotra's passing as an irreparable loss to the Delhi organization.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and ministers paid their respects to the former Delhi Chief Executive Councilor, Prof. Malhotra, with heavy hearts.

Delhi BJP founding president, former Delhi Chief Executive Councilor, and MP, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, passed away at AIIMS Hospital at around 6 am today. 94-year-old Professor Malhotra had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments at AIIMS for some time.

Upon receiving the news of Professor Malhotra's death, President of India Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Mr. C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Mr. Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Om Birla, and former President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind visited his residence to pay their respects and express condolences to the family.

BJP National President Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda, Organization General Secretary Mr. B.L. Santosh, Vice Presidents Mr. Baijayant Jai Panda, General Secretaries Mr. Vinod Tawde and Mr. Dushyant Gautam, and National Spokesperson Mr. R.P. Singh also offered condolences to the family and paid their respects to the mortal remains.

Delhi BJP President Mr. Virendra Sachdeva arrived at Professor Malhotra's residence early in the morning, expressed his condolences to the family, and personally supervised the arrangements.

Union Minister of State, Mr. Harsh Malhotra, also met with the family and paid his respects. Former Union Ministers, Smt. Smriti Irani and Mr. Shahnawaz Hussain also laid flowers on the mortal remains.

Delhi BJP's Organization General Secretary, Mr. Pawan Rana, State General Secretary, Mr. Vishnu Mittal, Media Head, Mr. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Office Secretaries, Mr. Brijesh Rai and Mr. Amit Gupta, and other officials expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.

Delhi Chief Minister, Mrs. Rekha Gupta, also visited the residence of former Chief Executive Councilor of Delhi, to express her condolences to the family of Prof. Malhotra and praised his vision for Delhi's development. Delhi Government Ministers, Mr. Parvesh Sahib Singh and Mr. Ashish Sood, also visited the residence and paid their respects to Prof. Malhotra.

Former Delhi BJP President, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Mr. Vijay Goel, Mr. Satish Upadhyay, and Mr. Manoj Tiwari also paid their respects.

Members of Parliament, Mrs. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Mr. Praveen Khandelwal, and Ms. Bansuri Swaraj also paid their respects to the mortal remains.

Senior party leaders, including Dr. Vedvyas Mahajan, Mr. Rambhaj, Mr. O.P. Babbar, Mr. P.K. Chandla, Mr. Lal Bihari Tiwari, Dr. Anita Arya, Mr. Pawan Sharma, Mr. Moolchand Chawla, Mr. Subhash Arya, and Mr. Lalchand Mehrolia, who had worked closely with Professor Malhotra for a long time, described the death of Professor Vijay Kumar Malhotra as a personal shock and said they had lost a political friend like a brother.

Prof. Malhotra's Biography:

Prof. Malhotra was born on December 3, 1931, in Lahore, where he completed his undergraduate education and pursued higher education at Hansraj College, Delhi. His father, Vaidya Khazan Chand, was a renowned physician.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Krishna Malhotra, son, Mr. Ajay Malhotra, and daughter, Mrs. Anupama Malik.

Whether as a volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or as a vigilant worker of the Jan Sangh, Prof. Malhotra established a unique identity and played a key role in the founding of the ABVP.

He was elected twice as a member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi from 1958 to 1967.

He was a member of the Delhi Metropolitan Council from 1967 to 1977.

As the Chief Executive Councillor of Delhi from 1967 to 1972, he laid the foundation for the development and better maintenance of Delhi. Due to his foresight, Delhi's first flyover, connecting Patel Nagar to Moti Nagar, was inaugurated in 1970.

As the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Metropolitan Council from 1972 to 1977, Prof. Malhotra played the role of a vigilant guardian of democracy and raised his voice against the misrule of the Congress party.

He was imprisoned during the Emergency from 1975 to 1977.

He became a member of the Lok Sabha in 1977 and was the President of the Delhi Pradesh Janata Party between 1977 and 1980.

After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party on April 6, 1980, he became the first President of the Delhi BJP.

He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1989 and then to the Rajya Sabha in 1994. He served as the Chief Whip of the BJP Parliamentary Party from 1998-99.

He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha twice in 1999 and 2004 and was elected Deputy Leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha from 2004-08.

He was the President of the All India Council of Sports from 2002 to 2004.

He was elected to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2008 and served as the Leader of the Opposition in Delhi for five years.

He was re-elected President of the All India Sports Council from 2015 to 2023.

As an academician, he taught for nearly 36 years as a professor at PGDAV College, New Delhi.
