Toss confusion in India-Pakistan women’s match, Mel Jones announces wrong call,Pakistan wins toss and opts to bowl

In the sixth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on October 5, 2025, India and Pakistan went head-to-head. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first.

As expected, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana did not shake hands before or after the toss. The tension between the two teams began during the Asia Cup 2025, when India’s Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s Salman Agha after a Group A match. Following that, Indian players continued to avoid handshakes with their Pakistani counterparts after games. Not only this, the Indian team had also refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from PCB chief and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. As a result, Naqvi took the trophy and medals away with him, and since then they have been ‘held hostage’.

Meanwhile, a major error during the toss was caught on camera. Australia’s Mel Jones was the toss presenter. When Harmanpreet Kaur flipped the coin, Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana clearly called “tails,” but Mel Jones announced “heads” and congratulated Sana for winning the toss. Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t react much, and Sana went ahead to declare that Pakistan would bowl first.
