A workshop for three states was held in Bhopal to reform Waqf Boards in accordance with the Waqf Act.

A one-day regional review meeting and workshop was organized by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, regarding the recommendations of IIT Delhi to upload details of previously registered Waqfs on the Umeed Central Portal, created under the provisions of the Government of India's new Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, and to ensure smooth functioning of the Board. The meeting was attended by Mr. Sameer Sinha, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, and Mr. Vishal Kumar Vishwakarma, Under Secretary, and Mr. Saurabh Kumar Suman, Commissioner, Backward Classes and Minority Welfare, representing the State Government of Madhya Pradesh.

The workshop and review meeting was organized by Dr. Sanwar Patel, Chairman, MP. Under the chairmanship of the State Waqf Board, the meeting was held in Bhopal on 26.09.2025 through the Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Board, in which apart from the Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Board, senior officers of Rajasthan Waqf Board, Chhattisgarh Waqf Board, Backward Class and Minority Welfare Department and representatives of electronic media, print media and social media participated.

On this occasion, Hon'ble Chairman Dr. Sanwar Patel presented the achievements made during his tenure in his welcome address. In his address, he informed that for the protection of Waqfs, transparency in work and development of Waqfs, the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 (Umeed Act, 2025) has come into force from 08.04.2025 and in compliance with Section 3(a) of the Waqf Act, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has created the Umeed Central Portal and launched it on 06.06.2025 and in the said Umeed Central Portal, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 108B of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 for registering the Waqfs already registered in the Board office and new properties as Waqf in the future, the Government of India, Ministry of Minority Affairs has framed the Integrated Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Rules, 2025 (Umeed Rules-2025) and issued a notification on 03.07.2025. has been given.

IIT Delhi ranked the Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Board as a top performer in Pillars 1 and 2.

He also mentioned during his address that during the review meeting held by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, on the implementation of various provisions of the Waqf Act 1995 and the Waqf Management System of India portal, the Commissioner for Backward Classes and Minorities, Madhya Pradesh, presented a summary of the temporary portal created for computerization and verification of Waqf records. The Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, praised the work done by the Board and encouraged other Waqf Boards to follow suit. Similarly, IIT Delhi was commissioned to visit all State Waqf Boards in the country to conduct a verification study of Waqf Boards. According to a report submitted to the Government of India by IIT Delhi, the Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Board has been included among the top performers in Pillar 1 (Institutional Governance) and Pillar 2 (Waqf Property & Data) based on the pillar-wise analysis report of all states.

In his address, he also stated that the Waqf Board, with the support of the state government, is continuously innovating and working to protect Waqfs by taking action against Waqf land mafias under the Waqf Act.

Power presentations were presented by representatives of the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board, Rajasthan Waqf Board, and Chhattisgarh Waqf Board:

At the regional review meeting, representatives of the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board, Rajasthan Waqf Board, and Chhattisgarh Waqf Board presented power presentations regarding the problems faced in uploading Waqf details to Umeed Central and the recommendations of IIT Delhi. The IT team and representatives from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, provided training on uploading Waqf details to the portal through detailed presentations. Following a review of the state-wise Waqf progress report, Mr. Sameer Sinha, Deputy Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Minority Affairs, and Vishal Kumar Vishwakarma, Under Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Minority Affairs, answered various questions from the officials attending the workshop. The suggestions received were taken into consideration and assurances were given to further improve the portal.

The Government of India representatives praised the work of the Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Board.

During the day-long workshop and training, presentations presented by the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board, and question-answer sessions, Government of India officials praised the Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Board's achievements, especially in the field of IT, and described the arrangements made for the workshop as exemplary.
