Member of Hashim Baba Gang, wanted in a sensitive murder case of GTB hospital, North-East Delhi nabbed after run for more than one year of the incident

INCIDENT OVERVIEW: 
In a commendable feat of police work, the team of Inter-State Cell (ISC) apprehended a member of notorious Hashim Baba Gang, Ayan @ Baba @ Arbaz  (23 years), wanted in a broad day light murder case, after a run for more than one year. On 14th July 2024, a sensational murder case sent shockwaves through the Trans-Yamuna area when a 35 year-old patient Riyazuddin, admitted in ward No. 24, 4th floor of GTB Hospital, Shahdara, Delhi, was shot dead by the assailants with rapid firing, leading to his death. A case vide FIR No. 340/2024 under Section 103(1)/3(5) BNS and 25/27 Arms Act was registered at PS GTB Enclave in this regard. 
THE CASE BACKGROUND 
The case relates to FIR No. 340/2024 dated 14.07.2024 u/s 103(1)/3(5)/61(2) BNS & 25/27 Arms Act, PS GTB Enclave, Delhi. 
On 14 July 2024, Hashim Baba Gang shooters planned to eliminate one Waseem of the Chhainu Gang as revenge for an earlier assault with a blade on their members. Waseem had narrowly escaped a prior attack and was undergoing treatment at GTB Hospital. On the day of the incident, in a case of mistaken identity, the attackers shot dead Riyazudin, a patient unrelated to the gang rivalry, instead of their intended target. 
 
ROLE OF THE ARRESTED ACCUSED 
During investigation, it was revealed that accused Ayan @ Baba @ Arbaaz, along with his associates, had conducted multiple recce operations of GTB Hospital from 09–13 July 2024. 
On the day of the incident (14 July 2024), Ayan assisted the shooters by carrying out surveillance inside the hospital premises, helping coordinate the movement of the assailants, and ensuring target tracking while keeping his phone switched off to avoid detection. His active role in the conspiracy was established through CCTV footage and witness accounts. 
TEAM AND OPERATION: 
Total 10 accused persons, involved in whole conspiracy were arrested just after the incident but accused Ayan @ Baba @ Arbaz was at large. A dedicated team comprising of  SI Amit Kumar, HCs Gajendra Singh and Sukhdeb and Ct. Ravindra Kumar of the Inter-State Cell, Crime Branch under the overall supervision of ACP Ramesh Chander Lamba and the strategic leadership of Inspectors Pankaj Malik and Rohit Kumar, was formed to track down the accused. HC Gajendra Singh developed specific human intelligence regarding the presence of accused Ayan @ Baba in Kaila Bhatta area of Ghaziabad, (U.P.) which was further developed. The efforts lead a fruitful result and accused correctly identified as Ayan @ Baba @ Arbaz r/o Kaila Bhatta, Ghaziabad (U.P.), who remained untraced for over a year as he had no prior criminal record and his complete address was not known. 
On 13.08.2025, the team identified and apprehended above Ayan near the Ghaziabad New Bus Stand petrol pump. The arrest was carried out without incident, following due process of law. 
The coordinated efforts, source cultivation, and technical followups of the team were instrumental in nabbing the accused after more than a year of evasion. 
DISCLOSURE AND MOTIVE 
During interrogation, Ayan disclosed that he came in contact with members of the Hashim Baba Gang through one Faheem @ Badshah. Lured by the promise of money, he joined their plan to eliminate Waseem. He confirmed his role in conducting reconnaissance visits to GTB Hospital on multiple dates and assisting the shooters on the day of the killing. 
He also detailed the gang’s communication methods, which included encrypted messaging apps like Signal, Instagram chats, and WhatsApp, and how they switched off their phones before surveillance trips to avoid location tracking. 
Further investigation is underway.
