On the death anniversary of Padma Vibhushan, former External Affairs Minister Late Sushma Swaraj, a ceremony was held today at Silver Oak Park, Jangpura Extension. A total of 501 saplings were planted in her memory as a tribute. The event also echoed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative “One Tree in the Name of Mother”, symbolizing both environmental stewardship and emotional connection.

Dignitaries Present:
The event saw participation from Delhi chief minister Smt. Rekha Gupta; Delhi BJP president Shri Virender Sachdeva; Union Minister of State Shri Harsh Malhotra; MPs Ramveer Singh Bidhuri (South Delhi), Yogendra Chandolia (North-West Delhi), Smt. Kamaljeet Sahrawat (West Delhi); Delhi government ministers Shri Pravesh Verma and Shri Ashish Sood; and Delhi MLAs Satish Upadhyay, Smt. Shikha Rai, Shri Anil Sharma, Shri Neeraj Basoya, Shri Shyam Sharma, and Shri Umang Bajaj, among several senior party leaders.

Statement by Delhi BJP President, Shri Virender Sachdeva:

“Today, on the death anniversary of Late Sushma Swaraj, we BJP workers have gathered together to offer floral tributes and plant 501 trees. Sushma Swaraj was like a mother to all of us. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, under the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” initiative, we planted these saplings in her memory.”

He added: “Smt. Sushma Swaraj’s ideals and personality remain an ongoing source of inspiration for all our workers. From her, we learned how to conduct debate in the House with civility, even in the face of opposition. The way she dedicated her life to public service is a lesson for us all—every worker should serve the nation with the same devotion.”

Words from Delhi Chief Minister, Smt. Rekha Gupta:

“Thousands of women across India and abroad still remember Sushma ji as a source of inspiration. She was not only a towering personality, but also a motherly politician. As one of the youngest politicians, she rose to hold high office in the country. Every daughter of the country should draw inspiration from her life. On her death anniversary, I bow at her feet with deep respect and pray that all daughters of the nation set similar goals. She was our mother, and will forever live in our hearts.”

Remarks by MP Bansuri Swaraj (New Delhi):

“In the six years since Krishna ji took away our mother from us, the void remains. But when I see the people gathered here today, I see in their eyes that same maternal love and care. Calling her merely my mother seems a celestial understatement. As the honorable CM Smt. Rekha Gupta mentioned, under her loving shadow, many have grown and flourished.”

She urged:

“If you truly wish to honor Sushma Swaraj ji, please do two things:
1. Help someone today.
2. Inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, plant a tree ‘in the name of mother’.”

She continued:
“Today we are gathered at Silver Oak Park, Jangpura. Every year, through her death anniversary, we pledge to preserve one park. Last year we chose a park on Lodhi Road; this year it is Silver Oak Park. A large number of people have gathered and over 500 trees are being planted. This people’s movement initiated by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi—‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’—not only keeps the memory of mothers alive but also protects our environment.”
