Kuljeet Singh Chahal Leads Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi Cleanliness Campaign at Sarojini Nagar Market

Mahesh Chandra - Delhi

Carrying forward the vision of  Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat@2047 and the Swachh Bharat Mission, and in line with Hon’ble Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta’s special cleanliness campaign “Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi”, NDMC Vice Chairman Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal today led the campaign at Sarojini Nagar Market, New Delhi.

He stated that this month-long campaign (from August 1 to August 31, 2025), aims to create a cleaner, greener, and healthier Delhi through collective public participation and coordinated institutional efforts.

Shri Chahal, along with sanitation workers, NDMC officials and staff, and local community members, actively participated in the cleanliness drive and emphasized the dignity of labour and the strength of collective civic action. On this occasion, he highlighted the importance of active public involvement to achieve the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission. He informed that the campaign would run through all NDMC departments—covering schools, hospitals, public parks, offices, and markets—through dedicated cleanliness and awareness activities.

He added that each department's supervisory staff would be responsible for conducting Clean Campus Drives, regular sanitation inspections, awareness sessions, and digital campaigns to bring about positive behavioral change and instill sustainable hygiene practices.

Shri Chahal appealed to all citizens, students, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market associations, and other institutional groups to actively participate in the campaign. He emphasized that cleanliness should not only be seen as a responsibility but should also evolve into a national movement of pride and empowerment.
In the coming days, special cleanliness drives will be conducted across markets and residential areas with the cooperation of RWAs and traders’ associations. NDMC schools will organize painting, essay writing, and slogan writing competitions to engage students in the mission. A “Clean My City” awareness march will also be organized with the participation of sanitation workers, volunteers, teachers, and doctors.

Through the “Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi” campaign, NDMC envisions a Capital that stands as a symbol of cleanliness, unity, and national pride—truly reflecting the essence of India’s freedom. Shri Chahal added that cleanliness is not only the responsibility of civic bodies but also of every citizen. In bustling marketplaces like Sarojini Nagar, it is the moral and social responsibility of both local shopkeepers and visiting shoppers or tourists to maintain cleanliness and refrain from littering. The cleanliness, beauty, and orderliness of a market can only be sustained through the equal cooperation of both residents and visitors.

On this occasion,  Shri Chahal also planted a sapling at Keshav Park, Sarojini Nagar. He emphasized that alongside cleanliness, a green environment is essential for our lives and future. Trees not only provide clean air but also play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, reducing pollution, and beautifying the city. This act of plantation sends a broader message—that cleanliness must go hand in hand with greenery to move toward a clean, healthy, and sustainable Capital city.

On the occasion, Smt. Shakuntala Srivastava, Medical Officer of Health; officers from the Horticulture Department; a large number of sanitation workers; and representatives from the Market Traders’ Association were present on the occasion.
