Towards Safer Roads: Drive Responsibly, Arrive Safely Delhi Traffic Police Drives City-Wide Road Safety Campaigns to Promote Responsible Commuting

In a determined effort to promote road safety and responsible commuting, the Delhi Traffic Police—under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters) Shri Satya Vir Katara—launched a large-scale Road Safety Awareness Campaign across the city. These initiatives reached a wide and diverse audience, including cyclists, auto and taxi drivers, hotel staff, and public transport personnel. The campaign focused on educating citizens about traffic rules, promoting women’s safety, and fostering respectful behavior on the roads.

 

Instilling Safe Habits: Road Safety Awareness in Schools

 

One of the most impactful aspects of the campaign was its focus on educating students—the future road users of the nation. The Delhi Police conducted awareness programmes at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya Paharganj,Arunodaya Public School I.P. Extension and Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya,Hanuman Lane, where approximately 440 students and 10 teachers enthusiastically participated. These sessions were designed to instill the basics of traffic discipline and road sense through interactive demonstrations and engaging Road Safety Quiz Competitions. The students not only gained vital knowledge but also actively participated by asking questions and sharing their own thoughts on safe road habits.

 

Safe Cyclists, Safe Roads: Conspicuity and Awareness Drive

 

 

To protect cyclists—one of the most vulnerable groups on the road—the Delhi Traffic Police carried out a Cycle Conspicuity and Awareness Drive at various location of Delhi. A total of 327 cyclists were educated on vital safety measures such as wearing helmets and following traffic signals. Reflective tapes were applied to bicycles to improve night-time visibility and reduce accidents.

 

Respect on the Roads: Special Sessions for Auto and Taxi Drivers

 

A dedicated awareness session was held for auto and taxi drivers at Mahrani Valmiki Hospital Pooth Khurd,New Delhi Railway Station and Deepak Kailash Hospital I.P. Extention. A total of 83 drivers participated in this program that emphasized essential road safety practices, the importance of traffic rule compliance, and respectful behavior—especially towards women passengers.

Outreach at Busy Intersections: On-Ground Awareness Drives

 

To maximize public engagement, Delhi Traffic Police conducted on-ground campaigns at major intersections such as Bhagwan Mahavir Marg Sec-23,Minto Road ,Paharganj Chowk and Karkari Mor Red Light Delhi. Officers engaged directly with over 9,850 road users—including pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, car drivers, and cyclists—sharing critical information on traffic signals, safety practices, and road etiquette.

 

Empowering Public Transport Drivers: DTC & Cluster Training

 

Recognizing the central role of bus drivers in public mobility, the Delhi Traffic Police organized focused road safety training sessions at DTC depot Bawana Delhi. A total of 30 DTC and Cluster bus drivers, along with 2 officers, were trained on traffic rules, defensive driving, pedestrian awareness, and professional conduct.

Women’s Empowerment Through Two-Wheeler Training

In a commendable step toward gender empowerment, a Two-Wheeler Training Programme for Women was held at with Hero MotocorpSynergy at T.T Park Punjabi Bagh in 2 Batches. 12 women were trained in safe riding techniques, road rules, and emergency response measures. The initiative aimed to boost confidence among women and equip them with skills to navigate both routine and emergency situations independently.

 

Senior officers, including Special CP Traffic Sh. Ajay Chaudhary, Addl. CP HQ Traffic Sh. Satya Vir Katara, DCP HQ I Traffic Sh. Shashank Jaiswal and DCP HQ II Traffic Sh. S.K.Singh commended the efforts of the Road Safety Cell in successfully spreading awareness. They emphasized the significance of such initiatives in fostering safer road habits and ensuring better compliance with traffic regulations, particularly among public transport personnel.

 

The Delhi Traffic Police remains dedicated to promoting road safety awareness and ensuring a safer, more efficient road environment for all citizens.
