More than 40 lakh mid-day meals ensured for children in Delhi-NCR every year

New Delhi. Akshaya Patra Foundation, which runs the world's largest school meal program, in partnership with Chetu Foundation, added seven state-of-the-art electric meal delivery vehicles (EVs) to its fleet. The move is a milestone in environmental awareness as well as the fight against classroom hunger. These EV trucks were flagged off during a joint ceremony held at Akshaya Patra kitchen on Saturday. These vehicles will deliver hot and nutritious mid-day meals to more than 18,000 children daily in schools across Delhi-NCR and contribute to the distribution of more than 40 lakh meals annually.

Gobind Dutta Das, Divisional Head, Akshaya Patra Foundation Delhi-NCR, said that the addition of these electric vehicles will significantly increase both the quality and reach of our services. These vehicles are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including thermal compartments that retain the heat of the food, zero-emission technology and better logistics features. Using them, we are able to deliver food to more children while significantly reducing the carbon footprint. This contribution of Chetu Foundation not only strengthens our fight against hunger, but is also an important step towards protecting the environment. This support of Chetu Foundation is a big contribution in this direction.

Shaili Bansal, Executive Director, Chetu Foundation said that we are proud to be a partner in the mission of Akshaya Patra. Through these electric vehicles, we want to ensure that children get nutritious food and the environment remains clean. This initiative symbolizes our dual approach – caring for both future generations and our earth.

Electric vehicles: Quality distribution with green technology

These EVs are specially designed so that the quality, temperature and hygiene of the food is maintained during distribution. Each vehicle will make two trips per day and distribute around 2500 meals. The biggest advantage of these EVs is that they are completely zero-emission based, which will not only improve air quality but also reduce the cost of distribution.
