BOY KIDNAPPED AFTER ONLINE FRIENDSHIP – RESCUED BY PROMPT ACTION OF PS SHAKARPUR, EAST DISTRICT, DELHI

? Victim Trapped via Online Chat: - 20-year-old Nikhil Pal @ Chetan was lured by a girl named K, whom he had befriended on WhatsApp two months prior.

? The victim’s sister received a threatening call from Nikhil’s phone stating he was caught with K and wouldn’t be released. The phone was switched off soon after.

? SHO PS Shakarpur constituted a team including SI Anubhav, ASI Praveen Kumar Sharma, HC Rahul, HC Anurag, and Ct. Naveen.

? With help from the CDR Cell, East District, the team tracked the victim’s mobile location across Noida and later Yamuna Khadar.

INCIDENT: -

On 03.07.2025, a PCR call was received at PS Shakarpur from Ms. S, a resident of Ganesh Nagar-II, Shakarpur, Delhi. She reported that her 20-year-old brother, Nikhil Pal @ Chetan, had gone to meet a girl named K, with whom he had been chatting on WhatsApp for the past two months. Later that day, Ms. Sreceived a distress call from Nikhil’s number. An unknown male, claiming to be K’s brother, stated that Nikhil had been caught with K in a hotel (OYO) and would not be released. The phone was then switched off.

INVESTIGATION: -

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, SHO PS Shakarpur immediately formed a dedicated police team comprising SI Anubhav, ASI Praveen Kumar Sharma, HC Rahul, HC Anurag, and Ct. Naveen. With assistance from the CDR Cell, East District, the team initially traced the victim’s last known location to Sector-6, Noida. However, the victim was not found there. Soon after, the victim’s phone was switched on, and its location was tracked near Mayur Vihar Metro Station, close to Yamuna Khadar. Acting swiftly, the police team rushed to the new location.

RESCUE OPERATION: -

At the scene, the team spotted a group of men surrounding and assaulting the victim. On noticing the police presence, the attackers attempted to flee, abandoning the victim and their motorcycles. During the chase, one accused fell and was apprehended on the spot. He was identified as: Sanjeev Kumar Lohia R/o Trilokpuri, Delhi, age: 31 Years. Upon search, the victim’s mobile phone was recovered from Sanjeev’s possession. Nikhil was immediately rescued and taken for medical examination at Dr. Hedgewar Hospital. Nikhil revealed that he had met K near Laxmi Nagar Metro Station around 10:30 AM, and she had lured him to Indirapuram Mall. On their return, five boys intercepted them near the metro station, forcibly took him away to a secluded house, assaulted him, and made threatening calls to his family. He further alleged that K was complicit in the plot, coordinating with the assailants. Later, he was taken to a forested area where the assault continued. The timely intervention of the police prevented a more serious outcome. During interrogation, accused Sanjeev disclosed that he, along with co-accused Tarun, Akash, and others, had been planning this abduction for over two months. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused, including the girl named K. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 198/25, under sections 140(3)/61(2)/3(5) BNS, was registered at PS Shakarpur, and further investigation is being carried out.

Education: 12th, unemployed.

MOTIVE OF THE ACCUSED: -

As revealed during preliminary interrogation, the motive behind the kidnapping and assault appeared to be a premeditated plan to extort money and intimidate the victim. The accused, including Sanjeev Kumar Lohia and his associates, had been plotting the act for over two months. They used the girl, K, as a bait to lure the victim into a trap under the pretext of an online friendship. Once isolated, the victim was abducted, physically assaulted, and threatening calls were made to his family, demanding silence and possibly implying ransom. The girl’s active involvement suggests it was a coordinated conspiracy aimed at financial and personal exploitation.

The general public, especially youth and parents, are advised to exercise caution while engaging with strangers on social media or online messaging platforms. Never agree to meet unknown individuals in secluded locations, and always inform a trusted person before going to meet someone new.

Parents are encouraged to maintain open communication with their children regarding their online interactions.

In case of any suspicious activity or distress, immediately contact the police by dialing 112 or visit the nearest police station.
