To be successful in media, it is necessary to keep ego away: Sanjay Sharma
Today, it is becoming very difficult to do meaningful work in media. There is a shortage of jobs and on top of that, many tasks have become possible with AI. In such a situation, one's own web media is a good option, but to be successful in it, it is necessary to keep the pride and ego of being a journalist away and prepare oneself for every kind of story and situation and play a long innings because there is no money in it in the first two years.
This was said by Mr. Sanjay Sharma, editor and senior journalist of 4 PM News, which has been continuously on top for a long time among the web channels doing political commentary, in the 'Rubaru' program organized by the State Press Club, MP. He said that in the media world, artificial intelligence has left the need for one person instead of a team for many works like content writer, voice over, background story, illustration etc. Running a traditional media house is becoming extremely difficult. In such a situation, alternative media is giving way to the new generation of journalists, but to survive in it, there should also be a provision for alternative employment. Giving his own example, he said that there came a time when he had to prepare for tea-Maggi outlets. We are journalists, so how can we do other work or will we only do political, police stories, such mentality has to be abandoned. Viewers want to see many types of stories. Choose new topics, stories related to life and build your viewer base. In YouTube, no money is received initially, but if you stick to your goal, then you get so much money that you cannot spend it later. Expressing the fear that the proposed broadcast bill will end alternative media, Shri Sanjay Sharma said that today governments have made a policy to end small media institutions and journalists by ignoring them by directly befriending big media owners. The way journalists are exploited, suppressed and cases are filed against them in India, it seems that in future only those journalists will survive who talk about and praise the government. Political packages have blunted the edge of journalism in the country. He called the hiring of journalists who praise the government like Sudhir Chaudhary on an annual package of Rs 15 crore in government media as misuse of public money. Shri Sharma believes that in the last few elections, the results were influenced by manipulating the voter lists. He questioned why there is a sudden increase in the percentage of voting in the last hours when there are no lines at the polling booths. He also said that to fight communal forces, Congress will have to coordinate better with the regional parties. Shri Sharma said that today all the policies of the country are being made keeping in mind the upper middle and upper class. It is becoming difficult for the majority to get employment and treatment. But the atmosphere in the country today is that all other issues are on one side and Aurangzeb's tomb is on the other side. Dictatorship is being established by inciting communal feelings and the real issues of the country have become secondary.
In his opening address, Mr. Sharma narrated the thrilling story of his struggle to reach many web channels with 15-20 crore views every month, starting from a job of Rs. 200 per month in a small place like Badaun. Soon, 4 PM is entering film production and a film will be started with a famous director which will be set in the backdrop of Jharkhand. Earlier, a music company was also launched to give opportunities to new talents, which received a good response. In the first phase of the program, Mr. Sharma was welcomed by State Press Club President Mr. Praveen Khariwal, Ujjain unit's Mr. Prakash Trivedi, Mr. Kumar Lahoti, Mr. Shivakant Bajpai, Mr. Sadiq Mansuri, Sanjay Mehta, etc. The program was effectively conducted by cultural activist - journalist Mr. Alok Bajpai while the vote of thanks was given by senior journalist Mr. Kirti Rana.
