Children with Autism Possess Unique Talents: Dr. Ravichandiran V., Vice Chancellor

Dr. Shikha Dutt Sharma Spl. Correspondent - Delhi

The NSS unit of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU), in collaboration with the Dhoon Foundation, organized an Autism Awareness Program at the Dr. G.K. Narayanan Auditorium.

In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ravichandiran V. stated that children with autism may face challenges in day-to-day functioning, but it is equally true that they possess special talents. In certain areas, their minds function even better than those of neurotypical individuals.

Chief Guest Sh. Achin Garg, IPS Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, said that history bears witness to many individuals with autism who have reached great heights of success, proving their remarkable abilities.

Chair of the ceremony, Sh. Vijay Gaur, Bureau Chief and Chairperson of the Participation and Support Committee, said that children with autism do not seek sympathy—they seek love. All efforts to include them in the mainstream are, in essence, a true form of worship. Guest speaker Dr. Priya Jain delivered an insightful and thought-provoking address on autism, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and empathy.

Worthy Registrar Dr. Ramchander Khatri and Ms.  Kavita Kumar, founder of the Dhoon Foundation, also shared their views. A variety of vibrant performances showcased the remarkable talents of these special children, captivating the audience that included DPSRU students, dignitaries, parents, and faculty members alike.

Notable performances included those by Aishwarya (dancer), Adhyayan (singer), Tanisha (singer), Shubh Pathak (keyboardist), Samiksha (drums), Satyamev Raj (singer), and Shreyan (keyboardist and singer). The performances were truly enchanting. Among them, Benzy mesmerized the audience with her soulful singing. Despite being non-verbal and preferring to express herself through music, her talent shone brilliantly. Her accolades include three national awards from the Government of India, two Limca Book of Records entries, and twelve released audio CDs. Her performance stood as a testament to her extraordinary abilities and left a lasting impression on the audience.

The event concluded with a delightful musical evening featuring renowned professional singers Satish Sachdeva, Anurag Bhandari, and Kajri Sen Kabiraj, who entertained the audience with popular Bollywood songs.

Dr. Parul Sharma noted the distinguished presence of esteemed faculty members including Dr. Sheetal Kalra, Dr. Savita Tamaria, Dr. Beauty Behera, Dr. Richa Rai, Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Dr. Amrita Parle, and Dr. Baljinder Singh. She also shared that an e-poster competition was organized, providing students an opportunity to display their creativity and raise awareness.

The event was efficiently coordinated by the NSS team members: Dr. Parul Sharma (NSS Program Officer), NSS Coordinator Dr. Jitender Munjal, Dr. Anshul Gupta,  Dr. Atul Jain, and Dr. Sachin Kumar. Our pillar of this event  was our NSS DPSRU volunteers (Sarvshrestha tiwari, Adil, Deepak Khari, Sameer, Priya, Rohan, Divyanshi, Ankit, Abhey, Lavi, Riya, Shreya, Amaan, Aditi & many more). The seamless coordination was highly praised by Dr. Ravichandiran V., Vice Chancellor; Sh. Achin Garg, DCP; and Bureau Chief Sh. Vijay Gaur, along with other speakers.
