A delegation led by MP Praveen Khandelwal met Chief Minister Rekha Gupta regarding the sealing issue in Chandni Chowk

“Not only the Municipal Corporation of Delhi but also the Delhi Government and the Central Government will approach the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the interest of traders if needed.” — Rekha Gupta

“Chandni Chowk is a completely commercial area, and due to the actions of one individual, this unfortunate situation of sealing has arisen.” — Praveen Khandelwal
A delegation led by Chandni Chowk MP Shri Praveen Khandelwal met the Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta, today to discuss the issue of sealing in Chandni Chowk.

The delegation included Shri Mukesh Sachdeva (President, Delhi Hindustani Mercantile Association), Shri Shribhagwan Bansal (General Secretary), Delhi BJP spokesperson Shri Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Chandni Chowk BJP President Shri Arvind Garg, BJP leader Shri Gopal Garg, and trade leaders Shri Subhash Goyal and Shri Abhishek Ganeriwal, among others.

Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta convened a high-level meeting today—despite it being Saturday—attended by the Chief Secretary of Delhi, the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, senior MCD officials, MP Shri Praveen Khandelwal, and other BJP leaders.

MP Shri Praveen Khandelwal and the members of the delegation apprised the Chief Minister that Chandni Chowk is a fully commercial zone, and due to the actions of one particular individual, an unfortunate situation has arisen in which certain shops have been sealed under the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

They requested that both the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation present the traders’ position before the Court, clarifying that this area is a legally recognized commercial zone under the Master Plan.

In the high-level meeting, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta directed the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner to inform the Hon’ble Supreme Court that Chandni Chowk has been a designated commercial area since before the Delhi Master Plan of 1962, and as per the Delhi Master Plan 2021, most of its markets and lanes are fully registered for commercial or mixed land use. Therefore, sealing shops in this area is unjustified.

Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta assured the traders of Chandni Chowk and across Delhi that not only the Municipal Corporation of Delhi but also the Delhi Government and the Central Government will jointly defend the interests of traders before the Hon’ble Supreme Court if needed.
