Illicit drugs have no place in our society: Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Police, Delhi

Under the able leadership of Devesh Chandra Shrivastava IPS Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Division, Delhi, Delhi Police organized Mega Nasha Vinash Programme during Nationwide Drug Prevention Fortnight: 11.01.2025 to 25.01.2025 Delhi Police is strictly following the policy of zero tolerance against drugs and is committed to root out drug abuse. Delhi Police is taking strict action against drug peddlers/smugglers/traffickers. Through initiatives like 'Operation Kavach' and various other stringent drug identification drives along with seizure of high quality drugs and drug destruction programmes etc., we have taken significant steps to curb drug trafficking and aim to completely eradicate this menace.

Sanjay Arora Commissioner of Police/Delhi has tasked all ranks and files to make concerted and focused efforts to make Delhi drug free. Destruction of illicit drugs: In the last two years, as part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Drug Free India Campaign), the following quantities of drugs were destroyed: • 21 December 2022: Around 2,888 kg of drugs were destroyed. • 26 June 2023: Around 15,700 kg of narcotics were destroyed. • 20 February 2024: Around 10,631 kg of narcotics were destroyed. • 17 December 2024: Around 10,601.192 kg of narcotics were destroyed. The total value of these drugs destroyed is estimated to be around Rs 5,982 crore in the international market. Notably, this destruction included some illicit drugs seized even 40 years ago.

In continuation of the same, the fifth round of drug destruction event was organised by Delhi Police today (24/01/25) under the nationwide 'Drug Disposal Fortnight'. Drug Disposal Fortnight In a historic step towards combating drug abuse and ensuring national security, the “Drug Disposal Fortnight” is being organised from January 11 to January 25, 2025, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is set to dispose of over 44,792 kg of seized narcotics with a market value of Rs 2,411 crore, taking a major step in strengthening our commitment to public safety and national security. The destruction of these drugs symbolises the firm commitment of the Government to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and trafficking. As part of this endeavour, Delhi Police has organised a “Mega Drug Destruction Event” today (24/01/25).

On this occasion, in the presence of Sanjay Arora Commissioner of Police/Delhi and under the able leadership of Devesh Chandra Shrivastava IPS Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Division, Delhi, under the overall supervision of Surendra Kumar Joint Commissioner of Police & Additional Commissioner of Police, under the supervision of Apoorva Gupta Deputy Commissioner of Police, under the efficient team coordination of Assistant Commissioners of Police Anil Sharma & Raj Kumar, Crime Branch, Delhi Police destroyed 1,575 kg of Ganja worth approximately ? 15.75 crore seized on 24th January, 2025 from Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt. Ltd., 46-47, SSI Industrial Area, GT Karnal Road, New Delhi-33 (near Jahangir Puri Metro Station). The Drug Disposal Fortnight supported by law enforcement agencies across the country aims not only to dispose of the confiscated narcotics but also to send a strong message of zero tolerance towards drug abuse and trafficking. This initiative is in line with the vision of 'Nasha-Mukt Bharat', ensuring a brighter, healthier future for the nation.
