MAJOR BLOW TO CIGARETTE SMUGGLING NETWORK: MASSIVE CACHE OF FOREIGN BRANDS PROHIBITED CIGARETTE SEIZED BY ARSC/CRIME BRANCH

  • TOTAL 9420 PACKETS HAVING 1,88,400 PROHIBITED CIGARETTES OF DIFFERENT INTERNATIONAL BRANDS, RECOVERED.
  • THE VALUE OF PROHIBITED CIGARETTES WAS APPROXIMATELY ?25.76 LAKHS.
  • THEY HIRED TWO LADIES AS DECOY FROM DELHI TO MISLEAD POLICE AS FAMILY MEMBERS.  
  • ONE MAHINDRA SCORIO N SUV WAS SEIZED WHICH WAS USED FOR SMUGGLING PROHIBITED CIGARETTES. 
 
INTRODUCTION:
In a major breakthrough, on 20-07-2025, a team of ARSC/Crime Branch led by Insprs. Mangesh Tyagi and Robin Tyagi, under the close supervision of Sh. Arvind Kumar, ACP/ARSC, Crime Branch has successfully apprehended four persons namely Mukeem, Sameer, two women in a Scorpio N SUV car with huge quantity of smuggled prohibited cigarettes. In this regard a case vide FIR no. 182/2025 u/s 7/20 The Cigarettes and Other Tabacco Products Act, 2003, PS Crime Branch has been registered and investigation is undwerway.
 
 
 
INFORMATION TEAM & OPERATION:
 
 
On 20.07.2023, SI Sandeep Sandhu had received a specific information that some persons from Guwahati are smuggling huge cache of prohibited cigarettes to Delhi. The secret information was developed through advanced technical surveillance and human intelligence and a dedicated team comprising SI Sandeep Sandhu, SI Nitin Singh, ASI Neeraj Kumar, ASI Prempal Singh, HC Amit, HC Naveen, HC Sawai and HC Inderjeet from the ARSC, Shakarpur, Crime Branch was prepared and four persons including two men and two women were arrested from Noida Delhi Border in a Mahindra Scorpio car having huge quantity of prohibited foreign cigarettes which were smuggled from Mayanmar. Upon inspection, it was found that the seized cigarette packets lacked the statutory health warnings mandated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Preliminary market evaluation places the total worth of the seized contraband at approximately ?25.76 lakhs  
 
INTERROGATION:
 
Following the arrest, the accused were subjected to intensive interrogation, during which they revealed that they smuggled the prohibited cigarettes from Guwahati. They further disclosed that the recovered cigarettes are smuggled from Mayanmar. It was also revealed by the accused persons that they hired both the ladies from Delhi so as to pose themselves as a family so that they could not be stopped by any Police persons on the way from Guwahati to Delhi.  
 
RECOVERY:
1. 5960 Packets of ESSE Light Company (Total 1,19,200 Prohibited Cigarettes)
2. 3460 Packets of Bension & hedges company (Total 69,200 Prohibited Cigarettes)
3. One Mahindra Scorio N SUV 
 
PROFILE OF ACCUSED:
Accused Mukeem and Sameer both belongs to Baraut, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. They are studied upto matriculation. They are unemployed. The recovered Mahindra Scorpio vehicle belongs to Sameer which he received in his marriage as a gift from his in-laws. One lady was married and separated from her husband and now living in Delhi with her parents. Another lady belongs to Lucknow and she is unmarried and they both known to one other while they both were working in Gurgaon in a private company. Both women were hired by accused Mukeem for Rs. 4000/- each.
