GANG MEMBERS OPERATING AS HENCHMEN OF GANGSTER GURJANT @ JANTA ARRESTED BY ISC, CRIME BRANCH, DELHI

Members formed gang in Haryana.
Accused were involved in recent firing incident and extortion cases of Anand Vihar, Delhi.
Arrested gang members include shooters, facilitators, weapon supplier etc.

Inter-State Cell, Crime Branch has busted Inter State gang of notorious gangster Gurjant Singh @ Janta gang with the arrest of 08 members of the gang namely (1) Sumit Ghangas r/o Israna, Panipat, Haryana, (2) Rahul Ghangas r/o Israna, Panipat, Haryana, (3) Saurav r/o Model Town, Panipat, Haryana, (4) Ashish r/o Murthal, Sonipat, Haryana, (5) Rohit Kumar r/o Sonipat, Haryana, (6) Rahul Kashyap r/o Model Town, Panipat, Haryana, (7) Preetpal r/o Manmohan Nagar, Ambala, Haryana and (8) Deepak r/o Ghas Mandi, Ambala, Haryana and recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition made.

Two gang members were involved in a recent firing incident at the house of a victim in the night of 08.04.25 in Anand Vihar, Delhi in pursuance to an extortion threat extended to the victim in the month of March 2025. The arrest of gang members has dealt a severe blow to one of the major networks of gangster Gurjant Singh @ Janta Gang based in Haryana.

BRIEF FACTS OF THE CASE:

An incident of firing at the house of a local businessman in Anand Vihar, Delhi took place in the night of 08.04.2025. Prior to the said incident, the victim had received an extortion call from gangster Gurjant Singh @ Janta using an international number demanding Rs. 05 Crores followed by subsequent calls and messages.

TEAM & OPERATION:

Sensing the gravity of crime, ISC, Crime Branch started operation for identifying unknown shooters and to apprehend them. Accordingly, a team was constituted comprising of Insp. Kamal Kumar, SIs Ashish Sharma, Gulab Singh, Samay Singh, ASIs Shailendra Singh, Rakesh, Jafruddin, HCs Surendra, Rajendra, Mahendra, Karmbir, Varun, Shakti and Naveen led by Insp. Satendra Mohan under supervision of Ramesh Lamba, ACP/ISC, and overall supervision of Sh. Aditya Gautam, DCP/Crime Branch, Delhi.

Sources were deployed and technical analyses was made. It was revealed that the gang is based in Ambala and the gang members are mainly from Ambala and other districts of Haryana. On 01.05.2025, specific input was received to the team that one of the gang members of gangster Gurjant Singh gang had gone to Chandigarh to collect a huge consignment of arms and ammunition on the directions of Gurjant Singh @ Janta.

Accordingly, in the morning of 2.05.2025, a trap was laid down in Alipur, Delhi and a cab was intercepted around 9 AM on GT Road, Delhi. The car occupant Sumit Ghangas r/o Village- Mandi, PS Israna, District Panipat (Haryana) was apprehended on whose search 45 live cartridges of 7.62 Bore were recovered. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 106/25, dated 2.05.2025, u/s 25 Arms Act, PS Crime Branch was registered and investigation was taken up.

INTERROGATION OF ACCUSED SUMIT GHANGAS:

Interrogation of accused Sumit ghangas revealed that his younger brother Rahul Ghangas was in regular touch with gangster Gurjant Singh @ Janta and had fired in Anand Vihar area in the night of 08.04.2025 on the instance of gangster Gurjant Singh in order to execute an extortion bid.

He revealed that his brother Rahul Ghangas was earlier lodged in Panipat Jail in a case of attempt to murder, where he developed association with an associate of Gurjant Singh @ Janta and got in touch with Gurjant Singh @ Janta through social media application and WhatsApp after coming out of jail on bail.

On 01.05.2025, on the instruction of his brother Rahul Ghangas, Sumit Ghangas along with his associates Rohit and Ashish, visited Chandigarh in a cab, from where he collected the said consignment of live rounds. His brother Rahul Ghangas was taking instructions from Gurjant Singh @ Janta through WhatsApp calls. On the way back, he dropped his associates in Sonipat, Haryana.

FURTHER ARRESTS:

Accused Sumit Ghangas was taken on police custody remand. On 03.05.2025, a raid was conducted on his instance in a hotel in Karnal (Haryana), from where his associates Ashish, Rohit and his brother Rahul Ghangas were apprehended. 01 sophisticated pistol along with 05 live cartridges were recovered from the possession of accused Rahul Ghangas, 01 sophisticated pistol with 03 live cartridges were recovered from accused Ashish and 05 live cartridges were recovered from the possession of accused Rohit. All the three accused were arrested in the case.

INTERROGATION OF ACCUSED RAHUL GHANGAS:

During interrogation, it was revealed that he was lodged in Panipat Jail in an attempt to murder case, where he a jail inmate provided him a social media ID of gangster Gurjant Singh @ Janta. He came out on bail in January, 2025 and contacted Gurjant Singh @ Janta, who assigned him the task to fire at the house of a businessman in Anand Vihar, Delhi to execute a plan of extortion from him. Gangster Gurjant Singh provided him arms and ammunition and some cash though another associate and also provided the details of said businessman.

In order to execute the plan, Rahul Ghangas was accompanied by co-accused Saurabh through accused Rahul Kashyap. Both robbed a motor cycle on 07.04.2025 from the area of PS Israna, Distt. Panipat (Haryana) on gun point and visited Anand Vihar in the night of 08.04.2025, where they fired several rounds at the house of a businessman and fled.

FURTHER ARRESTS:

On 03.05.2025, raid was conducted on the instance of accused persons and co-accused Rahul Kashyap and Saurabh were also arrested from Panipat, Haryana and a sophisticated pistol with ammunition was recovered from their possession. Both were also arrested and taken on police custody remand.

During onward operation, on 05.05.2025, further raids were conducted in Ambala, Haryana, where other associates of the gang, namely Preetpal and Deepak @ Gola were also apprehended and one country made pistol of .315 Bore with 01 live cartridge allegedly used in Anand Vihar firing was recovered from possession of accused Preetpal. Subsequently, during police custody remand, another country made pistol was also recovered from Ambala on instance of accused Deepak @ Gola.

RECOVERY:

• 03 sophisticated semi-automatic pistols

• 02 country made pistols

• 69 live cartridges

• 03 mobile phones used for communication and crime.

1) FIR No. 133/25, dated 21.03.2025, u/s 308 (5) BNS, P.S. Anand Vihar, Delhi.

2) FIR No. 174/25, dated 09.04.2025, u/s 125 BNS r/w 27/54/ 59 Arms Act, P.S. Anand Vihar, Delhi.

3) FIR No. 99/25, dated 07.04.2025, u/s 309 (4) BNS r/w 25 Arms Act, P.S. Israna, Distt. Panipat (Haryana).

PROFILE OF ACCUSED PERSONS:

1. Sumit Ghangas (age-29 yrs): He has studied up to 10th Standard and is married. After school, he started helping his father in his farm work. In the year 2016, he started doing private work. Presently, he was working as a Security Guard at MCD Toll, Tikri Border, Delhi. He has previously been involved in 02 cases in Sonipat, Haryana, including an attempt to murder case.

2. Rahul Ghangas (age-22 yrs): He has studied up to 8th standard. His father is a farmer. In the year 2023, he indulged in a firing incident and was arrested under offence 307 IPC and remained behind bars at Shiva Jail, Panipat. He is previously involved in 03 criminal cases, including two cases of attempt of murder and Arms Act in Haryana.

3. Saurav (age-24 yrs): He has studied up to 5th Standard. Rahul Kashyap is his childhood friend residing in the same locality. Around 2-3 months back, Rahul Kashyap introduced him with Rahul Ghangas at his cloth shop and informed that Rahul Ghangas is a gangster and had good links with other gangsters. In the month of April, he joined Rahul Ghangas and participated in the firing incident in Anand Vihar, Delhi. He has previously been involved in 01 case of attempt to murder in Panipat, Haryana.

4. Ashish (age-22 yrs): He has studied up to BA 1st year. He is cousin of co-accused Rahul Ghangas.

5. Rohit Kumar (age-25yrs): He has studied up to B.A. He used to help his father in farming. Accused also has passion for wrestling. Accused languished behind the bars for 1 & ½ Years in a murder case. He came in contact with Rahul Ghangas recently through co-accused Rahul Kashyap.

6. Rahul Kashyap (age-23 yrs): He has studied up to 10th standard. He used to work at a garment shop in Panipat. He was introduced to Rahul Ghangas in Panipat jail. He is previously involved in 04 criminal cases, including robbery, theft etc. in Panipat, Haryana.

7. Preetpal (age 23yr): He has studied up to 10th standard. He used to work as a “tattoo” artist in Ambala. He had arranged logistics after the alleged incident.

8. Deepak (age-30 yr): He has studied up to 7th class. He used to work in a store selling farm produce in Ambala. He facilitated members of the gang in harboring and carrying of weapons.

Further investigation is being carried out.
