“While remembering the dark memories of 1947, today we must walk in step with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to take the country forward” — Virendra Sachdeva

Ahead of the nationwide observance of Vibhajan Vibhishikha Divas (Partition Horrors Remembrance Day) on August 14, a program was held today at the Constitution Club.

Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva addressed dignitaries from the Sindhi community and paid tribute to the immense human suffering and sacrifices endured during the Partition. He also honored elderly citizens who had lived through the trauma of displacement.

The event, organized by the Progressive Sindhi Society Committee, was attended by BJP MLAs Shri Rajkumar Bhatia and Mrs. Shikha Rai, RSS provincial executive member Shri Dayanand ji, Prof. Sunil Baburao Kulkarni, Shri Vijay Israni, Shri Jitin Rajput, and several respected members of the Sindhi community, including elderly survivors of the Partition.

On this solemn occasion, attendees observed a moment of silence to pray for the peace of the souls lost during the Partition and took a pledge to promote unity and brotherhood in society.

Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva stated that the Partition was the result of conspiracy and dirty politics, carried out by the Congress and Muslim League leaders of the time for their selfish gains.

He remarked that even today, individuals with a jihadi mindset remain in the country, and emphasized the need for unity. “We must have complete faith that a united India will become a reality—if not in our lifetime, then in the lifetime of future generations,” he said.

Shri Sachdeva said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to observe Vibhajan Vibhishikha Divas to acknowledge and remember the pain endured by millions of families—a suffering the then Congress government tried to erase from memory.

He questioned why the political powers of that time surrendered so easily. “Many of the people present here today come from families that witnessed those horrific times, which is why emotions are running high.”

He further emphasized that while remembering the dark memories of 1947, we must move forward in step with PM Modi’s vision for the country.

“The Partition of 1947 was one of the most tragic events in Indian history,” he reiterated, “claiming the lives of millions and forcing crores to leave their homes.”

MLA Shri Rajkumar Bhatia said that after independence, the country’s borders were being redrawn while the political leaders of the time remained silent, motivated by self-interest. “Millions of families were torn apart. Many fell victim to the dirty politics of Jinnah and Jawaharlal Nehru,” he said. “People were forced to become refugees in their own country, and the mere memory of it still sends shivers down the spine.”

MLA Mrs. Shikha Rai said, “This day is not just for observance, but to remember the tragedies faced by families whose members were split across borders.” She praised the Sindhi community, saying, “Despite facing such trauma, they rose above it, educated their children, and are now thriving in all fields. That is truly commendable.”
