India-Pakistan Rivalry Set for New Chapter in Women’s ODI World Cup 2025

The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan encounter in women’s cricket is here again, this time on October 5 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium in the ongoing Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. For India, it’s about maintaining a spotless record; for Pakistan, it’s about rewriting history.

India has held the upper hand in this rivalry, winning all 11 ODI meetings so far, including a commanding 107-run victory in their last face-off in 2022. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side enters the contest with momentum, fresh from a convincing 59-run triumph over Sri Lanka in their opening match, where all-rounder Deepti Sharma shone with both bat and ball.

But Pakistan arrives with a different motivation—ending a long-standing jinx. Although they have never beaten India in the 50-over format, their spirited performances in T20Is show they are capable of springing surprises. Out of 16 T20 matches, Pakistan has managed three wins, proving that when pressure is high, they can step up.

For India, Sunday’s clash is about extending their dominance and strengthening their campaign. For Pakistan, it represents a golden chance to create history, silence critics, and inspire a new generation of cricketers.

The R. Premadasa Stadium is set to witness not just another group-stage clash, but a contest charged with pride, rivalry, and the possibility of a breakthrough moment.

Press Conferences Ahead of the Clash
On the eve of the high-voltage encounter, India's Bowling Coach Aavishkar Salvi addressed the media, emphasizing that her team is focused on “one game at a time” and not letting past records dictate their approach. She highlighted the team’s balanced performances and praised youngsters for stepping up in crunch situations.

Pakistan Captain Fatima Sana , on the other hand, acknowledged the challenge of facing India but remained optimistic. “We know the history, but records are meant to be broken. Our team is motivated and prepared to give everything on the field,” she said, adding that Pakistan’s strength lies in their fighting spirit and ability to thrive under pressure.
