We are what our environment is. The alarming rise in pollution levels and decline in Air Quality Index (AQI) has made life miserable for humans and animals alike. It's high time we take immediate action on a war-footing to restore comfort and well-being. Rather than pointing fingers, we must recognize that our actions contribute to this crisis. When we raise one finger at others, three point towards ourselves.
The Press Conference held at Press Club of India, Raisena Road on November 21, 2024 - 3:30 PM
On this occasion, Dr. Urvashi Mittal, Social Worker further said,
Charity begins at home. Individual actions, supported by governments, NGOs, and corporations, will drive change. Every small effort counts. Simple steps like carrying our own steel flasks, segregating plastic, polythene, and paper waste at home, and inspiring others to do the same will accumulate to make a substantial difference. We must shift our mindset from blame to responsibility, from apathy to action, and from individualism to collective ownership. One drop may not fill the container, but every drop adds up. By adopting eco-friendly choices and inspiring others, we can preserve our environment.
However, individual efforts require supportive infrastructure. Governments and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) must play a crucial role. For instance, if individuals carry steel flasks, governments should provide accessible outlets for refilling them with potable water at a nominal cost. This would curb plastic bottle usage substantially, saving individuals from spending money on bottled water and reducing pollution.
Similarly, RWAs should ensure effective waste management. Many colonies lack waste collection services, rendering segregation efforts futile. Hospitals and hotels must also join this drive, making it inclusive and impactful.
The time to act is now. Let's join forces to create a better future. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the planet.
