Successful replantation of cut finger after 15 hours.

Address: E 79/2 Sonia vihar Sabji mandi , Mandawali Near MCD Office New Delhi

          On 9 th Oct 2024 Patient Pooja got injury while trying to hold her 4 year child , her hand got slipped inside the Washing machine , and her  right  index finger was badly crushed and all over skin avulsed with no blood supply to distal part of finger .the amputated finger was attached only by tendon. With fracture of middle phalanx.
 
           Patient reached Safdarjung hospital at 10 pm where medical officer did basic test and x-ray and patient was referred to Burn and Plastic surgery department of Safdarjung hospital. But because of some reason they left hospital and came again on 10th oct 2024 at 7 am in emergency. from there they referred to plastic surgery department of Safdarjung hospital. The team of doctors, Dr Shalabh Kumar, Dr Rakesh Kain, Dr Upendra Sharma and dr. Dhruti Dr Nupur, dr Nikita , Dr Mansi  Examined the case. 

            because of about 12 hours had been passed it was suspicious whether reattachment of finger and restoration of blood circulation will be able to salvage the finger. but finally, it was decided to give a fair trial l to reimplant. the patient was immediately taken to operation theater and surgery started. Around 3-hour surgical procedures doctors were able to unite the blood vessels, one artery and one vein to r blood vessels united. And finger start appearing pink. The bone fixed by a steel wire. now after 3 days patient is in ward and finger circulation is well established and finger survived.

             Dr Shalabh Kumar senior Plastic surgeon said these blood vessels are very small like fine threat and its very complicated procedures, the replantation after 15 hour is a great success and milestone in field of finger replantation. DR Rakesh Kain Professor of Plastic surgery said normally reimplantation is  done within 6-8 hour after cut of finger and part  should be preserved in two pack of ice, one pack is dry with cut finger and it should be kept in other pack of ice. Dr Sujata Sarabahi head of the department said such type of surgeries are possible under microscope.
