Major Explosion Near Delhi’s Red Fort: 8 Dead, Over 25 Injured in Car Blast

The national capital was shaken on Monday evening by a powerful explosion near the historic Red Fort. A car parked near the Lal Qila Metro Station suddenly exploded around 7 PM, killing at least 8 people and injuring more than 25 others, according to police sources.

What Happened?

Eyewitnesses reported that a white car had stopped at a traffic signal near Red Fort when a loud explosion occurred. The blast was so intense that nearby vehicles and auto-rickshaws caught fire. Windows of surrounding shops and houses shattered, causing chaos in the area.

Police, fire tenders, and ambulances rushed to the spot immediately. The injured were taken to LNJP Hospital and Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital.

Security and Investigation

Soon after the blast, Delhi Police cordoned off the entire area, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have joined the investigation.

Preliminary reports suggest the possibility that explosives were planted inside the car. Forensic experts are analyzing debris and chemical residues to identify the explosive type used.

Terror Attack or Accident?

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a terror link. Although no group has claimed responsibility yet, intelligence agencies are examining all angles.
According to sources, the car was registered under the name of a doctor from Faridabad, who was previously questioned in connection with a suspected terror module.

High Alert Issued in Delhi-NCR

Following the explosion, a high alert has been issued across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab.
Security checks have been tightened at metro stations, malls, railway stations, and major public places.
Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious objects or activities to the authorities.

Delhi Chief Minister said in a statement:

“This is a tragic and deeply concerning incident. My condolences to the families of the victims. Those responsible will not be spared.”

The Prime Minister’s Office has directed all security agencies to submit a detailed report on the blast and ensure swift action.
