‘Sowed the Seeds of Partition’: PM Modi Alleges Congress Dropped Important Stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of editing and omitting key stanzas of the national song “Vande Mataram” — a move he claimed symbolized the party’s divisive politics that eventually “sowed the seeds of partition.”

Addressing a gathering, PM Modi said the Congress leadership, in the name of appeasement, had tampered with the original version of the patriotic song that had inspired countless freedom fighters during India’s independence struggle.

“Those who removed important lines from Vande Mataram are the same people who divided the country. Their mindset was never truly nationalistic,” the Prime Minister said, emphasizing that such actions reflected a lack of respect for India’s cultural and historical heritage.

He further stated that Vande Mataram was more than just a song — it was a symbol of India’s unity, pride, and sacrifice, and any attempt to dilute its meaning was an insult to the nation’s identity.

The remark has sparked sharp political reactions, with Congress leaders dismissing the allegations as “baseless and politically motivated”, while BJP supporters hailed Modi’s statement as a reminder of “historical truth long ignored.”
