Gujarat CM orders crop loss survey as unseasonal rain hits over 10 lakh hectares of farmland

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to conduct an immediate crop loss survey after unseasonal rainfall affected more than 10 lakh hectares of farmland across several districts of the state. The unexpected downpour, accompanied by gusty winds and hailstorms in some areas, has damaged standing crops such as cotton, groundnut, and pulses — particularly in Saurashtra, North Gujarat, and parts of Central Gujarat. The Chief Minister instructed district administrations to ensure a transparent and timely assessment of losses so that affected farmers can receive compensation under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and crop insurance schemes. Patel also held a high-level review meeting with agriculture and revenue department officials to evaluate the situation and expedite relief measures. The government has assured farmers that all necessary steps will be taken to minimize their hardships and protect their livelihoods. Meteorological reports indicate that more isolated rainfall may continue for the next 24 hours, keeping authorities on alert for further damage assessment.
