Virendra Sachdeva inaugurates Emergency @50 program organized by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre

“The younger generation must know how the Congress government strangled the Constitution just to save their chair and retain power.” – Virendra Sachdeva

“If we credit Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Nehru for India’s independence, then the credit for protecting the ideological freedom of the people goes to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh.” – Virendra Sachdeva

New Delhi, October 11: On the completion of 50 years since the imposition of Emergency, Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva inaugurated the program “Emergency @50” organized by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini by lighting the ceremonial lamp today at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath. The event was chaired by former MP Shri Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.

This program is dedicated to the memory of the historic people’s movement fought to protect democracy in India – a struggle that safeguarded the very soul of the nation. On the birth anniversaries of great personalities like Shri Jayaprakash Narayan and Shri Nanaji Deshmukh, we must remember their ideals and take a pledge to keep democracy in India forever strong and vibrant.

Several dignitaries, including Union Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, addressed the various sessions of the program.

In his address, Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva said that this event has been organized so that the younger generation learns how the Congress government throttled the Constitution just to retain power and how the freedom of the press was suppressed. Today’s youth must be aware of these historical truths.

Shri Sachdeva further stated that during that time, in the greed for power, some were silenced, some were killed, and some were brutally punished. Therefore, the present generation must understand what the Emergency was and how dark those days truly were. Over the last 10 years, the world has witnessed India’s growing strength, and as a result, Indian democracy has earned a new global identity.

Making a special appeal to the youth, Shri Sachdeva said:

“Today’s youth is often immersed in mobile addiction, but if that same intensity could be channeled toward the nation, the country’s future would be in truly safe hands. Let us work to cultivate a spirit of service toward the nation and respect for democracy.”

Shri Sachdeva emphasized that Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh were the true guardians of the Constitution and democracy during the Emergency imposed by the Congress in independent India.

The Delhi BJP President concluded by stating:

“If we credit Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Nehru for India’s independence, then the protection of ideological freedom in India must be credited to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh.”
