Demand to ban the use of animal-based fertilizers and promote plant-based alternatives - Manoj Kumar Jain

The Bhagwan Mahavir Deshna Foundation (BMDF) has submitted a formal representation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, demanding a ban on the use of organic fertilizers made from animal residues (meat, bones, blood, fish, etc.) and the promotion of plant-based alternative fertilizers.

Foundation Director Mr. Manoj Kumar Jain (Councilor, MCD, New Delhi) stated that in recent years, under the guise of "organic" or "natural" farming, the use of fertilizers made from non-vegetarian sources has been increasing. This trend deeply hurts the religious and moral sentiments of millions of vegetarians, Jains, Vaishnavites, Sikhs, Buddhists, and vegans.

He stated that plants or crops that are nourished by fertilizers made from animal residues cannot be considered completely vegetarian. This not only causes religious discomfort but also violates faith-based food integrity.

The Foundation's Key Demands

1. Clear labeling should be made mandatory for all fertilizers containing animal residues, so that farmers and consumers can make informed and faith-based decisions.

2. A separate category and certification system should be created for plant-based organic fertilizers, with the label "Veg Certified Organic Fertilizer."

3. Agricultural universities and research institutes should be encouraged to promote fertilizers made only from plant, animal-based, and microbial sources.

4. The "Veg Origin Certified" label should be issued for crops grown entirely from non-animal sources.

Mr. Jain stated that this initiative will not only protect the religious and moral values ??of millions of peace-loving citizens, but will also further strengthen India's image as a global leader in "non-violence, pluralism, and sustainable living."
