11 September 2024 - All seven gates of Tighra reservoir, a unique heritage of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, were opened this afternoon. On receiving the news of opening of the gates of Tighra reservoir, a large number of city dwellers reached Tighra and enjoyed the thrill of water coming out with a loud roar. There is a wave of happiness among the people of Gwalior due to filling of Tighra reservoir, now there will be uninterrupted supply of drinking water in the city throughout the year.
Mayor Mrs. Shobha Sikarwar, Municipal Corporation Chairman Mr. Manoj Singh Tomar and Leader of Opposition in Municipal Corporation Mr. Harpal,
including councilor Mathu Yadav, Collector Mrs. Ruchika Chauhan, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mr. Aman Vaishnav and SDM Mr. Atul Singh and officers of the Water Resources Department also became witnesses of this thrilling experience. It is known that during the Scindia reign, the Tighra reservoir was constructed by Madho Maharaj under the technical guidance of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya more than 100 years ago. Since then, this reservoir has been quenching the thirst of Gwalior city. That is why Tighra reservoir is called the lifeline of Gwalior. Tighra reservoir is a freshwater reservoir located on the Sank river, which is located 23 km from Gwalior.
Villages in the lower areas were alerted
The villages located in the downstream of Tighra have been alerted. On the instructions of Collector Mrs. Ruchika Chauhan, the Revenue Department team is continuously patrolling the villages located in the lower areas. Collector Mrs. Chauhan has also alerted the SDRF team as a precaution. She has also given instructions to take care of the safety of tourists coming to celebrate picnic at Tighra reservoir.

Village Tighra, Village Kaitha, Village Talpura, Village Mahidpur, Village Prithvipur, Village Kulaith, Village Agra Bhatpura, Village Dugnawali and Village Tilghna.
