Demand for inclusion of all eligible mandals in Karimnagar in drought-affected list
KARIMNAGAR Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has questioned the Telangana government’s criteria for declaring drought-affected mandals, alleging that several mandals in the Karimnagar Parliamentary Constituency facing drought conditions were left out. In a statement issued in Karimnagar on Wednesday (October 28, 2026), Mr. Sanjay alleged that the assessment did not reflect ground realities.
He questioned whether the State government had considered mandal-wise rainfall data and crop conditions while finalising the list. He demanded that the government make public the statistical data used to identify drought-affected mandals and include all deserving mandals in the list in accordance with established norms. He also sought relief measures for affected farmers, agricultural workers and the rural poor.
Demand for input subsidy of ₹25,000 per acre Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the CPI Karimnagar district secretary P. Srinivas said only three of the district’s 16 mandals were declared drought-affected. He questioned the rationale behind including the Karimnagar Urban mandal, a largely urbanised area with negligible agricultural land, while leaving out several rural mandals facing deficient rainfall and a prolonged dry spell.
He said farmers in these areas faced distress. Mr. Srinivas demanded a district-wide resurvey and a supplementary notification covering all drought-affected mandals. He also demanded an input subsidy of ₹25,000 per acre for affected farmers and the rescheduling of their crop loans. (Eom)
