Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany bring holiday joy to Kansas City families
Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes brought some holiday cheer to Kansas City families in December 2023. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback stepped away from the football field to spend time with children at EarlyStart's Clothing Kits for Kids drive. But the visit offered more than a chance to meet one of the NFL's biggest stars. Mahomes and his foundation helped families get essential winter clothing, including coats, socks, hats and gloves. The event took place on Wednesday, December 20, just days before Christmas.
Mahomes' foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, donated dozens of winter clothing items for the drive. By the end of the event, 124 clothing kits had reached families. For parents dealing with everyday expenses, the support meant a little less worry during the colder months. One mother, Nataliya Shalib, explained why the visit meant so much to her and her son.Patrick Mahomes and Brittany help 124 Kansas City families with winter clothingMahomes and Brittany joined EarlyStart's students and their families for the holiday event.
Their visit gave the children an opportunity to meet the Chiefs quarterback while also receiving clothing they could use throughout winter. The donation came through 15 and the Mahomies, Mahomes' charitable foundation. The kits included coats, socks, hats and gloves. These were basic items, but they could make a real difference for families who struggled to afford winter essentials.June McDaniel, EarlyStart's interim CEO, explained the need during an interview with KSHB 41 reporter Rae Daniel at the December 20 clothing drive."They're getting coats and socks and hats a gloves and all these things are essential in order for them to get through the winter months," McDaniel said. She also spoke about her own understanding of the challenges some families face.
McDaniel said some children arrive at school without knowing where their next meal will come from or whether they will have a warm coat the following day."I would've wanted what we're providing today, which is love and care and support," she added. Her comments showed why the drive went beyond a holiday celebration. For EarlyStart, providing these essentials also meant helping children feel comfortable and supported as they continued their education.

It definitely means a lot," she told KSHB.The mother also highlighted how much the donation meant to single parents in the community."It means a lot not only myself as a single mother, but single mothers and fathers here too. You know we definitely appreciate him a lot him and Brittany a lot for this," Shalib said.McDaniel hoped the drive would remind families that they had support within their community.
