A member of the Kanjar gang who stole jewelry worth lakhs by cutting the pocket of Soni, a passenger of an e-rickshaw, was arrested in Kannauj.

Police recovered a gold Kundan necklace of 220 grams worth Rs. 18,00,000 and a gold belt of 60 grams worth Rs. 4,50,000 from the arrested gang member. The total seized goods worth Rs. 22 lakh 50 thousand were recovered. The second member of the Kanjar gang who was caught is lodged in Kannauj jail in a case under section 307.

Bureau Chief Sandeep Shukla | Gwalior | Date 05.06.2024 – On 23.03.2024, complainant Sandeep Soni, resident of village Amine, police station Amine, district Bhind, had lodged a report in police station Hazira that he came to Gwalior from village Amine by bus with his wife and daughter and from Gola temple, he sat in a tonga with his family. At the same time, an unknown person also sat in the tonga vehicle. While going home, near Char Shahar Naka, that person cut the pocket of the pants and took the gold jewellery along with the purse and got down from the e-rickshaw and fled on his partner’s motorcycle. On the said report, a case was registered in police station Hazira under crime number 146/2024, section 379 IPC. Senior officers were informed about the said incident. Taking seriously the incident of stealing the jewellery by cutting the pocket of Soni sitting in an e-rickshaw, Superintendent of Police Gwalior Shri Dharamvir Singh (IPS) directed Additional Superintendent of Police City (East/Traffic/Crime) Shri Shiaz K.M. (IPS) to form a team of Hazira Police Station and trace the gang of pickpockets and steal the jewellery and recover the stolen goods.

In compliance with the instructions of senior officers, under the able guidance of CSP Maharajpura Shri Nagendra Singh Sikarwar, teams of police force were deployed by Police Station Incharge Hazira Inspector Shivmangal Singh Sengar to trace the said gang. During the search, the police team checked 1500 CCTV footages from the place of incident to the route of escape of the criminals up to 250 kms. In the footage, two criminals were seen going towards Bhind via Gola Ka Mandir. On the basis of CCTV footage and technical evidence, the police team found that both the criminals were residents of Kannauj (U.P.). On which police teams were sent to Kannauj to catch both the miscreants. In Kannauj, the police team searched for both the miscreants. During the search, the police team caught a suspect from Kannauj Kanjar Dera with the same appearance as seen in the CCTV footage. The arrested suspect told his name as Narendra Gihar (Kanjar) during interrogation. When the arrested suspect was questioned about the crime of Thana Hajira, he tried to mislead the police team, but when the police team interrogated him thoroughly, he accepted that he along with his partner had stolen the jewelry by cutting the pocket of an e-rickshaw rider at Char Shahar Naka District Gwalior. The stolen gold Kundanhaar and a gold belt were recovered from the accused caught by the police team. On which the police team arrested the said accused in the case of Thana Hajira Crime No. 146/2024 Section 379 IPC and brought him to Gwalior. He was produced in the Hon’ble Court and 04 days PR was taken. Efforts are being made to recover the stolen goods in other cases by interrogating the arrested accused. The other accomplice of the arrested accused, Rajiv Gihar (Kanjar) son of Bharat Gihar, age 41 years, resident of Kutulpur Makarand Nagar, Kannauj, U.P., is lodged in the Kannauj jail in a case under section 307. Action is being taken to issue a protection warrant for him from the Hon’ble Court. Both the accused have previously committed crimes in Kannauj and other states.
